A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE TO ‘THE LITTLE ONES STILL IN THE EARTH, 7 GENERATIONS OUT’.

Hello little ones still in the earth seven generations out’!  We continue to try to adjust our ways in the direction of cultivating harmony for your experience of emergence from the implicit and pre-manifest potentiality of the Tao into the explicit and manifest expressing of the Tao.  We know that seven generations can bring forth a wholotta transformation and that the way of nature is not all harmony-and-no-dissonance even if harmony is eternally returning.

So, we are thinking of you as we continue to observe what is emerging, most of which comes as a surprise in spite our attempts to shape the unfolding.  In spite of the fact that we haven’t been good at anticipating what unfolds, … we do want to adjust course in such a manner as to try to cultivate harmonies in the environment that you will be emerging into.

I would not be being truthful if I did not share with you that we have some puzzles and disagreements here in the unfolding now, not only with respect to what we need to do to improve the harmonies of the reality you will be emerging into, but more seriously, with respect to what actually is the current reality, something that it would be good to know by those of us who are currently in our ‘emergent’ phase since we tend to see and understand things quite differently.

So, I certainly ‘cannot speak for everyone in our currently emergent phase’ so I will have to share with you my ‘good faith minority report’.

I have been encouraged, … by others who have contemplated expositing on how things are currently unfolding, and deliberating on ‘needed adjustments’, insofar as how these may influence what is unfolding for y’all seven generations out, … to be as blunt and straightforward as I can be, NOT to signal any belief that reality can be so simply reduced to an effable explicate, since the Tao is ineffable and implicit anyhow, … but just to share a few observations on how we, the current diverse human social collective, are articulating different understandings of the ineffable reality we all share inclusion in, and how those differing understandings may be dividing us and pulling us into different patterns of relational activity.

So, I am not claiming that my views and actions, which I would wish to be supportive of your smooth and harmonious entry seven generations out, are in any way, ‘the most true’, but I can assure you that they are ‘honest’ in the sense that I have made an effort to penetrate beneath at least the outer layers of superficiality as far as I am able to discern them.

So here goes with my (bluntly stated) assumptions as to what ‘needs adjusting’ on your behalf.

And an advance welcome to you!

WESTERN CULTURE IS A CRAZY-MAKER; HERE’S WHY

-1- The Tao (wave-field) is the ineffable reality, and so we use language to come up with effable (“double error” REDUCTIONS) of the ineffable, which means LOCAL versions of the NONLOCAL.

-2- RESONANCE as in the wave-field aka the Tao, is NONLOCAL; e.g. “Duning” is resonance and this is ineffable (i.e. beyond capture in language) so we reduce it to ‘Dunes’ that ‘build’ and ‘shift’ which are LOCAL which makes them ‘effable’ (we can point to them, touch them, kick them and otherwise understand them as LOCAL things-in-themselves).  ‘Duning’ and NONLOCALITY (resonance) is the INEFFABLE REALITY and we REDUCE this INEFFABLE REALITY to EFFABLE by way of a ‘double error’ of language and grammar, to terms of LOCAL things-in-themselves (dunes) that we say ‘grow’ larger and ‘shift’.  In other words, we split “Duning” into two parts the “DUNE’ as FIGURE that moves with respect to a GROUND (e.g. ‘the Desert floor’).  So, ‘resonance’ is where FIGURE AND GROUND are ONE and NOT TWO.

-3- We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS teach our children that they are LOCAL things-in-themselves that GROW bigger and stronger.  THEY ARE NOT ‘REALLY’ THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES AND THEY DO NOT ‘REALLY’ ‘GROW’.  In the reality of the Tao or Wavefield, ‘humans’ are ‘humanings’, relational forms in the transforming relational continuum (Wavefield).  There is no such thing in the reality of our actual sensory experience as GROWTH (which implies the existence of a THING-THAT-EXISTS (absolute BEING) and an EMPTY CONTAINER INDEPENDENT OF ITSELF THAT is NOT RELATED to ‘ITS GROWTH’ (absolute SPACE) …  there is only RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION. ‘GROWTH’ is grammar-based intellectual abstraction.

-4- A CRAZY-MAKER is our WESTERN CULTURE PRACTICE of teaching our children that THEY ARE LOCAL THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES that ‘start off SMALL and GROW BIGGER!  YET THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ‘GROWTH’, there is only relational transformation, that is what modern physics informs us, and we get the notion we are LOCAL things-in-themselves that GROW from little things into larger things, from LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR by way of the ‘DOUBLE ERROR’ (Nietzsche).  The FIRST ERROR is in ‘naming’ to impute ‘thing-in-itself existence’ to relational forms in the wavefield such as ourselves.  The SECOND ERROR conflates the first by imputing POWERS of SOURCING actions and developments to the name-instantiated (abstract, notional) THING-IN-ITSELF.

-5- As modern physics has pointed out, THE REDUCED “REALITY” CONSTRUCTED WITH THIS LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR ‘DOUBLE ERROR’ IS ILLUSION, IT IS NOT ‘REAL’ (i.e. it is not coming to us from sensory experience but from intellectual rationalizations.).  The EAST uses this DOUBLE ERROR based pseudo-reality as a TOOL for ALLUDING to the REAL REALITY (the ineffable Tao or Wavefield) that lies innately beyond it.  The WEST falls into the CRAZY-MAKING TRAP of accepting the DOUBLE ERROR based REDUCTION as the OPERATIVE REALITY; hence Emerson’s critique of the WESTERN habit wherein; ‘the tool runs away with the workman, the human with the divine (i.e. the effable runs away with the ineffable).  EXAMPLE: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GROWTH!  OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT ‘BORN LITTLE AND GROW BIG’, OUR CHILDREN ARE RELATIONAL FORMS IN THE TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM.  “GROWTH” IS NOT REAL, IT IS ABSTRACTION based on the two foundational abstractions of BEING and TIME.

-6- TREATING ‘GROWTH’ AS ‘REAL’ IS THE DOUBLE ERROR OF WESTERN CULTURE AND IT IS A CRAZY-MAKER.  AS MODERN PHYSICS ATTESTS, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS “GROWTH”, NOT OF OUR CHILD, NOT OF OUR SELF, NOT OF OUR CROPS, NOT OF OUR TOWN, NOT OF OUR INDUSTRY, … THERE IS ONLY RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION AKA THE TAO.

-7- THE NON-REALITY OF ‘GROWTH’ IS UNDERSTOOD BY ‘THE EAST’, BY MODERN PHYSICS, BY INDIGENOUS ABORIGINALS AND BY TAOISTS/BUDDHIST AND ADVAITA VEDANTA, SO THAT THEY DO NOT FALL INTO THE TRAP OF BELIEVING IN GROWTH THAT WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS FALL INTO (OR JUMP ENTHUSIASTICALLY INTO).   WE DRIVE OURSELVES CRAZY WITH THIS BELIEF IN GROWTH, THAT RECASTS US AND OUR CHILDREN AS THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES, LIKE THE ‘DUNE’ THAT GROWS LARGER AND TALLER AND MOVES ABOUT AS IF IT WERE AN ‘INHABITANT’ IN A HABITAT.  TO UNDERSTAND ‘GROWTH’ AS LITERALLY TRUE, AND NOT JUST AN EXPEDIENT ‘WITTGENSTEIN LADDER’ … IS A SCHIZOPHRENIC CRAZY-MAKING THOUGHT THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN IN THE EAST.  IN THE REAL WORLD OF OUR RELATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF INCLUSION IN THE TAO, THERE IS NO ‘BEING’, NO ‘TIME’ AND NO  ‘INHABITANT’ – ‘HABITAT’ SPLIT, THERE ARE ONLY RELATIONAL FORMS IN THE TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM.

* * *

CRAZY-MAKING influences coming from BELIEF in the ABSTRACT CONCEPT OF GROWTH (of notional double-error, name-instantiated THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES that move and develop in SPACE and TIME ‘wallpapers over’ our understanding of RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION.

-a- The belief in LOCAL SOURCING as in GROWTH (and its supportive cohort abstractions, BEING, SPACE and TIME) becomes the basis for REWARDS and PUNISHMENTS in WESTERN culture.  This abstract binary thinking is why ROBIN HOOD and Jean Valjean get PUNISHED for letting themselves become agents of relational rebalancing since their actions are seen, through WESTERN reductive intellectual abstractionism, as being LOCALLY SOURCED from the interior of their notional INDEPENDENT THING-IN-ITSELF BEING (i.e. this IS the double error of language and grammar pointed out by Nietzsche.).

WHO DOESN’T SEE IT THIS WAY?

MODERN PHYSICS, INDIGENOUS ABORIGINALS, TAOISM, BUDDHISM AND ADVAITA VEDANTA  understand reality as RELATIONAL as in ‘mitakuye oyasin’ (we are all related), so that CONFLICT is not LOCALLY ARISING but emerges as RELATIONAL DISSONANCE as a departure from RELATIONAL HARMONY, otherwise known as the TAO or in the indigenous aboriginal culture as ‘THE GREAT HARMONY’ aka ‘THE GREAT SPIRIT’.  This reality is purely RELATIONAL and thus NONLOCAL.  This is REALITY as in MODERN PHYSICS where there is no such thing as LOCAL instantiation of actions and developments, such ABSTRACTION arising from the DOUBLE ERROR of language and grammar, and IN THE WEST, taken to be the operative reality rather than as in the EAST, as a mental springboard to the ‘real ineffable reality’ that lies innately beyond the effable and is only IMPLIED by the effable.  Hence Bohm’s distinction between the IMPLICATE order and the EXPLICATE order in reality.

NONLOCALITY is the real sensory-experience-affirmed reality (it is the reality of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum) while language and grammar are a vehicle for abstract reduction of the NONLOCAL to the LOCAL;

“In the book ‘Causality and Chance in Modern Physics’ Bohm argued that the way science viewed causality was also much too limited. Most effects were thought of as having only one or several causes. However, Bohm felt that an effect could have an infinite number of causes. For example, if you asked someone what caused Abraham Lincoln’s death, they might answer that it was the bullet in John Wilkes Booth’s gun. But a complete list of all the causes that contributed to Lincoln’s death would have to include all of the events that led to the development of the gun, all of the factors that caused Booth to want to kill Lincoln, all of the steps in the evolution of the human race that allowed for the development of a hand capable of holding a gun, and so on, and so on. Bohm conceded that most of the time one could ignore the vast cascade of causes that had led to any given effect, but he still felt it was important for scientists to remember that no single cause-and-effect relationship was ever really separate from the universe as a whole.”  –The Holographic Universe: The Revolutionary Theory of Reality: Michael Talbot:

WEST is in the habit of LETTING THE TOOL OF REDUCTIONISM RUN AWAY WITH THE WORKMAN, so that she LOCALIZES HERSELF by way of the DOUBLE ERROR.  This reduction to the LOCAL is, in the WEST, instead of being used simply as a tool of inference, employed LITERALLY as THE OPERATIVE REALITY.  Instead of understanding ‘duning’ as NONLOCAL resonance (Wave-field) phenomena, we WESTERN culture adherents think of reality in terms of THE DUNE as a locally-existing thing-in-itself that GROWS larger and longer and shifts across ‘the desert floor’ (invoking the inhabitant-habitat split).  We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS do this LOCALIZING of the NONLOCAL not only with ‘duning’ for also with ‘humaning’ and ‘citying’ and ‘nationing’ etc.  That is, the WESTERN default operative reality is fabricated in terms of LOCAL things-in-themselves notionally with their own powers of SOURCING actions and developments [AKA THE DOUBLE ERROR OF LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR].  The WEST uses this intellectual, abstract ‘surrogate reality’ as if it were “REALITY”.  That is why Robin Hoods and Jean Valjeans get convicted and PUNISHED for being the LOCAL SORCERERS of ‘their own’ actions and developments, a conviction that is blind to the understanding of this dynamic in the implicit terms of their NONLOCAL moving in the service of cultivating the restoring of relational balance and harmony. The impetus derives from the relational dynamic which is NONLOCAL, … the impetus is NOT LOCALLY incipient (the double error of language and grammar makes it appear to be LOCAL).

Because WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS have established this tradition of belief in LOCALLY incipient ‘sorcery’ (a grammar based deception), the belief has become ‘locked in’ by EGO where the social collective believes in such abstract powers of LOCALLY incipient SORCERY and thus REWARDS the sorcerers of GOOD actions and developments and PUNISHES the sorcerers of BAD actions and developments.  This is all BULLSHIT ABSTRACTION but belief in it, in WESTERN CULTURE, is LOCKED-IN by HIGH SWITCHING COSTS since we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS elevate and reduce esteem (reward and punish) humanings, on the basis of their perceived acts of sorcery.  This is CRAZINESS since we are all inclusions in a transforming relational continuum aka NONLOCALITY.

Exceptionally performing teams demonstrate the GREATER REALITY OF NONLOCALITY and ‘let go of their LOCAL team thing-in-itself identity’ and understand themselves as relationally included within a network of relational collaboration within the overall transforming relational continuum, so that, just as we do while driving in heavy flow of traffic, we let our actions be inductively shaped by the sustaining of harmony in the relational dynamics we share inclusion in.  Giving ourselves up this understanding of reality (inclusion in the Tao) is intuitive and the natural primacy of this intuitive understanding of reality (the implicit order) is acknowledged in modern physics, indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta.

MEANWHILE, WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS REMAIN STUCK IN THE CRAZY-MAKING ABSTRACTION OF LITERAL BELIEF IN THE DOUBLE ERROR OF LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR WHICH RENDERS THE INDIVIDUAL (IN ONE’S INTELLECTUALLY ABSTRACTING PSYCHE) IN TERMS OF A LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF WITH ITS OWN LOCAL POWERS OF SOURCING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS; I.E. AS A ‘SORCERER’.  WE ARE THUS MAKING A LOT OF TROUBLE FOR OURSELVES, BY NOT SEEING THAT THE REALITY OF OUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE OF INCLUSION IN THE TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM IS WHERE OUR ACTIONS ARE INTUITIVELY COMING FROM, RATHER THAN FROM DOUBLE ERROR BASED LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR ABSTRACTION.  E.G. THERE IS NO ‘DUNE’, THERE IS ONLY ‘DUNING’ IN THE TAO AND THERE IS NO ‘HUMAN’, THERE IS ONLY ‘HUMANING’ IN THE TAO (THE WAVE-FIELD AKA THE TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM).

TO CONTINUE TO PUT THE EFFABLE ABSTRACT INTO AN UNNATURAL PRIMACY OVER THE INEFFABLE SENSORY EXPERIENCE OF INCLUSION IN THE TAO IS THE ONGOING ‘CRAZY-MAKER’ OF WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENCE.

Acknowledging NONLOCALITY manifests in indigenous aboriginal cultures in the interpretation of rape, murder, theft as arising NONLOCALLY from relational dissonance so that the entire community accepts responsibility rather than assuming LOCAL SOURCING and launching a Crime Scene Investigation to identify a double error based ROOT SOURCE.  Just as it is possible to use language to say that ‘the dune has buried our vehicle’, it is possible to say that ‘this man put an arrow through my son’s heart’, however, ‘understanding’ need not be reduced to language based (double error based) LOCAL sorcery.

The WESTERN CULTURE CRAZY-MAKER IN BRIEF

‘The name of the devil is suboptimization’ is an expression coming from the systems sciences.  It points to confusion in the mind from thinking in ‘flatspace terms’ rather than ‘spherical space terms’.  This is often-overlooked difference in understanding, which separates rational intellection from intuitive intellection is a CRAZY-MAKER that puts people at odds with one another on the basis of the two different ways of understanding ‘reality’.

If we live in a spherical space, there is no such thing as LOCAL growth; i.e. if we double the size of cultivated land, at the same time we are commensurately reducing the size of the wilderness.  Therefore we can speak of ‘transformation’ of the overall space, but we can’t rightly speak of ‘growth’ of the cultivated land since that would fail to capture the reality which included the reduction of the wilderness.   If our plans and discussions were all about increasing the cultivated lands, such plans and discussions would fail to address the shrinking of the wilderness and the fleeing of refugee animals into the shrinking wilderness.

Reflection on what is going on here shows that talk of GROWTH … ON ITS OWN … would only make sense in a flat space of infinite extent since in the case, there would be no simultaneous reciprocal SHRINKAGE.  In a spherical space, GROWTH of deliberately altered land without SHRINKAGE of unaltered land is impossible; i.e. the expanse of uncultivated land is reduced in reciprocal relational to the growth of the cultivated land.  So, while our statements in the one-sided terms of LOCAL GROWTH in what we had cultivated would be complete and correct in a flatspace situation, such one-sided GROWTH statements would be INCOMPLETE in a spherical space situation.  That is, in the space on the surface of a sphere, the wilderness SHRINKS in the same but reciprocal measure as the GROWTH of the cultivated land, therefore, one-sided talk of GROWTH is incomplete with respect to what is REALLY going on.  In other words, ‘GROWTH’ is not a viable term fit for describing what is going on here in this spherical space.

NIETZSCHE’s ‘double error’ comes into play in describing what is going on here.  The ‘double error’ is a common ‘trap’ or pitfall where we use language and grammar to reduce (articulation of) NONLOCAL phenomena to (abstract terms of) pseudo-LOCAL phenomena; i.e. the first error is ‘naming’ to impute ‘independent thing-in-itself existence’ to a relational form, such as the name ‘farm’ applied to cultivated land.  We conflate this with a second error of grammar that imputes the power of sourcing actions and developments to the name-instantiated thing-in-itself (the first error).  Thus ‘the farm is doubling its production of vegetables.’.

The ‘double error’ sets up a stand-alone mental image of the farm as a ‘thing-in-itself’ (a flatspace mental image) by action of naming it and conflates this first error with a second error of imputing the power of sourcing production of products to the name-instantiated thing-in-itself; i.e. ‘the farm’.  This is the common producer-product concept employed in Western culture intellectual constructions.  It is a ‘double error’ laden concept.

To say that ‘the farm produces vegetables’ is an example of how the double error ‘distorts our thinking’, by introducing the abstract concepts of ‘LOCAL’, ‘BEING’ and the ‘POWER OF SOURCING’.

While our actual sensory experience of living in the land brings us an awareness of ‘transformation’ as the uncultivated land shrinks in reciprocal relation to the expansion of the cultivated land.  TRANSFORMATION is the reality while GROWTH of the cultivated land (i.e. ‘growth of the farm’) is LOCAL as in ONE-SIDED and thus UNREAL ABSTRACTION.  In fact, it is this same difference that distinguishes ‘flat space’ from ‘spherical space’ in geometry/topology as in the FIGURE-GROUND relation where, in flat space, the FIGURE can grow independently of the GROUND, but in spherical space, FIGURE AND GROUND are conjugate aspects of the ONE-SPACE in the manner of the ‘BOIL’ and ‘FLOW’ in fluid dynamics which, while they differ in APPEARANCE are not different by ONTOLOGY, although this is implied when captured in the abstractions of language and grammar.

The mismatching of flatspace and spherical space conceptualizations confuses our understanding;  In Heraclitus words;

‘The knowledge of many things does not teach understanding’.

In the same vein, the adage;

“We are drowning in knowledge but starving for understanding”

As we know, WESTERN CULTURE orients to GROWTH which is a ‘flatspace’ concept out of the context of TRANSFORMATION which is a spherical space concept.  We commonly speak of the GROWTH of a town or a ‘housing development’ which implies LOCAL BEING as well as the ‘double error’ where we impute the power of local sourcing of actions and development to a notional LOCAL thing-in-itself.  Meanwhile, while that is possible within the abstraction based constructions of the rational intellect, it is not possible in the relational experience grounded INTUITIVE understanding, since we are aware that in the spherical space of our actual sensory experience, the notional GROWTH of a town or housing development, IS IN THE REALITY OF OUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE, RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION, which is a NONLOCAL phenomenon and therefore ‘ineffable’ in LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF terms.

Among WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS, the tool of offable-izing  NONLOCAL RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION in the ‘double error’ terms of LOCAL NAME-INSTANTIATED THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES WITH NOTIONAL POWERS OF SOURCING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS serves as the basis for CONSTRUCTING PSEUDO-REALITIES that are then employed, in WESTERN CULTURE, as the ‘operative reality’.

In modern physics as in indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism and Advaita Vedanta, the double error is employed ONLY AS A TOOL OF INFERENCE for alluding to a transforming relational reality that is beyond capture using language based on primitive abstractions such as LOCAL, name-instantiated THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES with ‘grammar-given’ powers of SOURCING actions and developments (aka the ‘double error’).  As a ‘tool of inference’ which the intuition can use as a springboard to take a leap beyond the abstractions of LOCAL, BEING and TIME, the double error (which the WEST interprets LITERALLY/EXPLICTLY) is interpreted INFERENTIALLY in the EAST is captured by Wittgenstein as follows;

6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.

 He must surmount these propositions; then he sees the world rightly.

“7. Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.”

  — Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico Philosophicus

The approach of the WEST is a crazy-maker in that the flatspace concepts of BEING, SPACE and TIME are employed LITERALLY to construct a pseudo-reality wherein NONLOCAL RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION is replaced by the double error based mechanistic abstractions of LOCAL, BEING and TIME wherein ‘duning’ is reduced to ‘the dune’ as an item of content in ‘desert’ as the container, creating an abstract ‘inhabitant’ – ‘habitat’ mechanization that must be managed by the intellect (the Presocratics-noted ‘burden of concreteness’) within intellectual constructions that fall innately short of capturing our intuition of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum aka ‘the Tao’ aka ‘the wave-field’.

Wittgenstein speaks of ‘approaching the surface of truth from the outside moving inwards, from ‘what is obviously not the case’ towards ‘what is not so obviously not the case’.  [The inference is that drilling down-and-in analytically is a CRAZY MAKER]

This resonates with Whorf’s observation that the LOCAL, BEING, and TIME of Newtonian physics derives from language and grammar rather than from our experiencing of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum;

From the form-plus-substance dichotomy the philosophical views most traditionally characteristic of the “Western world” have derived huge support. Here belong materialism, psychophysical parallelism, physics–at least in its traditional Newtonian form–and dualistic views of the universe in general. Indeed here belongs almost everything that is “hard, practical common sense.” Monistic, holistic, and relativistic views of reality appeal to philosophers and some scientists, but they are badly handicapped in appealing to the “common sense” of the Western average man–not because nature herself refutes them (if she did, philosophers could have discovered this much), but because they must be talked about in what amounts to a new language. “Common sense,” as its name shows, and “practicality” as its name does not show, are largely matters of talking so that one is readily understood. It is sometimes stated that Newtonian space, time, and matter are sensed by everyone intuitively, whereupon relativity is cited as showing how mathematical analysis can prove intuition wrong. This, besides being unfair to intuition, is an attempt to answer offhand question (1) put at the outset of this paper, to answer which this research was undertaken. Presentation of the findings now nears its end, and I think the answer is clear. The offhand answer, laying the blame upon intuition for our slowness in discovering mysteries of the Cosmos, such as relativity, is the wrong one. The right answer is: Newtonian space, time, and matter are no intuitions. They are recepts from culture and language. That is where Newton got them.” — Benjamin Whorf

Both of these observations refute the WESTERN understanding that ‘reality’ is something we are closing in on with our language and grammar based abstraction (as if the fish were in the net, or the leprechaun were trapped within our closing grasping fist), rather than the opposite wherein the reality of our actual sensory experience is NONLOCAL and ineffable as in the Tao (Wave-field).

In this understanding, the concept of LOCAL and INTERNAL gives way to the NONLOCAL so that the FIGURE in the GROUND is purely APPEARANCE, thus the ‘HUMAN’ must be understood as a ‘HUMANING’ in the Tao or Wave-field, an understanding of which will never be found by analysis that drills down and in.  This understanding recalls investigations into the source of departures from psychological balance and harmony where the evidence suggests NONLOCAL origination.

 ‘Mental Health and Ethnic Minorities’ by Cochrane and Sashidharan, that show that the incidence of schizophrenia in non-native born blacks in the U.K. is 3-5 times higher than native born blacks. As the researchers point out, the implication is that we are not going to discover the source of the illness, no matter how deeply and intensively we investigate the individual’s ill health as if it were the property of the individual.

“From the outset it will be clear that most of the research in this field has followed the conventional epidemiological or medical paradigm by focusing on mental ill health as the dependent variable. It is, therefore, not surprising that there is a lack of empirically grounded research on mental well-being or the psychological resilience and survival of minority groups in this country” — R. Cochrane (University of Birmingham) and S. P. Sashidharan (North Birmingham Mental Health Trust) in ‘Mental Health and Ethnic Minorities’

The same conclusion was reached by Jill Astbury in ‘The Making of Women’s Madness’ in reviewing The World Health Organization statistics on the mental ill health of females which show that women have twice the incidence of ‘affective disorders’ (depression, bipolar disorder etc.) as men.  We usual dichotomous ambiguity associated with ‘sourcing’ of actions and developments (in this case mental illness) surfaces once again.  Astbury observes that there is a problem in assuming that ‘the women are ill’ rather than there is an illness-inducing dysfunction in the social dynamic which may be manifest more visibly in the more sensitive members of the social collective.  In other words, is mental breakdown due to a fault in the individual or due to in the dynamics of the collective in which the individual in included?

The research stemming from this viewpoint had a systemic blindness. It could literally not see what it was doing, as the normative quality of its own presuppositions had made them invisible.” – Jill Astbury

The normative quality of WESTERN CULTURE inquiry is double-error based reductionism wherein naming-instantiated LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF BEING with grammar imputed powers of inside-outward asserting GROWTH and DEVELOPMENT are assumed to be ‘real’.   Confusing of such producer-product abstraction for ‘reality’ is the CRAZY-MAKER that infects the WESTERN psyche.

NOTES:NONLOCALITY

Heraclitus – Scatter and Gather.  — Nonlocality

“Upon those that step into the same rivers different and different waters flow. They scatter and gather, come together and flow away, approach and depart.”

Schroedinger: — Understanding the Nonlocal Self

“ … Yet each of us has the indisputable impression that the sum total of his own experience and memory forms a unit, quite distinct from that of any other person. He refers to it as ‘I’ and What is this ‘I’? If you analyse it closely you will, I think, find that it is just the facts little more than a collection of single data (experiences and memories), namely the canvas upon which they are collected. And you will, on close introspection, find that what you really mean by ‘I’ is that ground-stuff upon which they are collected. You may come to a distant country, lose sight of all your friends, may all but forget them; you acquire new friends, you share life with them as intensely as you ever did with your old ones. Less and less important will become the fact that, while living your new life, you still recollect the old one. “The youth that was I’, you may come to speak of him in the third person, indeed the protagonist of the novel you are reading is probably nearer to your heart, certainly more intensely alive and better known to you. Yet there has been no intermediate break, no death. And even if a skilled hypnotist succeeded in blotting out entirely all your earlier reminiscences, you would not find that he had killed you. In no case is there a loss of personal existence to deplore. Nor will there ever be.” – Erwin Schroedinger, ‘What is Life?’

Geoffrey Chew:  — Bootstrapping as a means of effable-izing the inneffable-because-Nonlocal

“When you formulate a question, you have to have some basic concepts that you are accepting in order to formulate the question. But in the bootstrap approach, where the whole system represents a network of relationships without any firm foundation, the description of our subject can be begun at a great variety of different places. There isn’t any clear starting point. And the way our theory has developed in the last few years, we quite typically don’t know what questions to ask. We use consistency as the guide, and each increase in the consistency suggests something that is incomplete, but it rarely takes the form of a wel-ldefined question. We are going beyond the whole questionandanswer framework.”

Wittgenstein:  Inference as a means of communicating Nonlocality
