    3. Embrace Paradoxes: Acknowledge that opposing ideas can be reinforcing rather than mutually exclusive. For instance, a leader can be both authoritative and democratic, depending on the context.

Where “Both/And” is Most Effective

    • Leadership & Innovation: Combining opposing strategies (e.g., stability andchange, profit and purpose) to create breakthrough solutions.
    • Emotional Intelligence: Allowing for complex, mixed emotions, such as feeling both grief and relief, or being proud of an effort while still wanting to improve.
    • Conflict Resolution: Moving from a win-lose mentality to finding common ground that satisfies the needs of all parties. 

 

While binary logic remains useful for quick, low-stakes decisions, “both/and” thinking is necessary for navigating the “full-spectral” complexity of modern life. 

 

THIS ISSUE IS RELEVANT IN TODAY’S WESTERN CULTURE SOCIAL DYNAMICS WHERE IT FORMS THE BASIS OF POLARIZING DIVISION OF CONSERVATIVE AND LIBERAL POLITICIANS.

 

In Erich Jantsch’s terms of THREE LEVELS OF AWARENESS, we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS, because we have opted to simplify our everyday linguistic conceptualizing approach FROM less simple NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC of the INCLUDING MEDIUM as where we formerly employed propositions of the form “TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON AND A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE” which implies that we are INCLUDED IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN OURSELVES, as is consistent with Modern physics wherein we understand that we are CONDENSATIONS of and within the energy-charged PLENUM and as is consistent with the indigenous aboriginal view of ourselves as STRANDS in the WEB (the interconnecting and interdependent relational web).  OOPS!  GOODBYE WESTERN CULTURE PURIFICATIONIST JUSTICE, HELLO INDIGENOUS ABORIGINAL RESTORATIVE JUSTICE.

 

In Jantsch’s THREE LEVELS OF AWARENESS, our linguistic conceptualization GOES BEYOND THE BINARY to the NONBINARY BY INCLUDING OUR REAL SENSE-EXPERIENCE OPTION OF AWARENESS OF INCLUSION IN “TRANSFORMATION”.

 

LEVEL 1  AWARENESS is like the indigenous aboriginal STRANDS IN THE WEB that secure RESONANCE between the NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT and the LOCAL and EXPLICIT (i.e. resonance between OUTER and INNER as in wave-harmony).

LEVEL 2 AWARENESS is like the LIBERAL PARTICIPANTS in a spherical world where AUTHORING is INTERCONNECTED and INTERDEPENDENT so that COOPERATION is natural and essential.

LEVEL 3 AWARENESS is like the CONSERVATIVE EGO-based ‘survival of the fittest’ wherein COMPETING TO WIN can cultivate strength/capability to sustain overall SUPREMACY.

 

BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM is innately TOO SIMPLE and lacks the SCOPE TO GO BEYOND the BINARIES of COMPETING AND COOPERATING to CO-CULTIVATING TRANSFORMATION as is pursued within the HEALING CIRCLE of indigenous aboriginal cultures.  This is like the ZEN “make me one with everything” orientation and also alludes to the AWARENESS of being included in something greater than oneself as suggested by “TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON AND A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE”.

 

The WESTERN CULTURE “PROBLEM” IS THAT THE POPULAR TAKE-OVER (HIGHJACKING) OF LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZATION BY SIMPLE BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC as with CONSERVATIVES and LIBERALS with their current penchant for HEAD-BUTTING POLARIZATION powered by an EGO based fear of losing and obsession for winning, is, as systems sciences would put it, “LOCKED IN BY HIGH SWITCHING COSTS”.   The HIGH SWITCHING COSTS involve the LOSS OF REWARDS AND RECOGNITION AWARDED TO “WINNERS” and the PUNISHMENTS and DENIGRATION ATTACHED TO “LOSERS” that ‘come with’ the LEVEL 2 and the LEVEL 3 AWARENESS LEVELS.  SO long as CONSERVATIVES and LIBERALS “HAVE LOCKED HORNS” IN DOING BATTLE ON THIS BINARY LOGIC BASIS, THE NONBINARY LOGIC  LEVEL 1 TRANSFORMATION “IS NOT ON THEIR RADAR SCREEN”.

 

INSTEAD OF BEING ATTUNED TO NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC OF THE INCLUDING MEDUM  ‘INSPIRATION THAT FILLS THE HEART” (resolving a female opening of need), there is ADDICTION TO BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM EGO THAT SWELLS THE HEAD (reducing the person to an individual rocket-powered missile on a private male asserting/actualizing mission).

OBSERVATIONS:

 

While indigenous aboriginal cultures with their STRAND IN THE WEB orientation and associated RESTORATIVE JUSTICE persists as a viable NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC of the INCLUDING MEDIUM BASED PATH, WESTERN CULTURE, by popularizing BINARY LOGIC has limited our choices to SIMPLE BINARY LOGIC OPPOSITES SUCH AS CONSERVATISM AND LIBERALISM, SPLITTING THE SOCIAL COLLECTIVE INTO TWO POLARIZED OPPOSING CAMPS. 

 

THE TRUMP CAMP, BY OPERATING AT AWARENESS LEVEL 3 SEES ONLY THE TWO BINARY LOGIC BASED OPTIONS OF WIN OR LOSS and thus INVESTS FULLY AND SOLELY IN WINNING.

 

The LIBERAL CAMP, BY OPERATING AT AWARENESS LEVEL 2 SEES THE OPTION OF COOPERATIVE ALLIANCE WHICH CONFLICTS WITH THE LEVEL 3 AWARENESS OF EITHER WIN OR LOSS.

 

BECAUSE OF THE BINARY LOGIC CONSTRAINED EGO BASED BELIEF IN ONE’S OWN LOCAL AUTHORING POWERS (which DROPS OUT the LEVEL 1 AWARENESS OPTION of INCLUSION IN SOMETHING GREATER [To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose], so that there may be NO (or LOW) AWARENESS of the NONBINARY LEVEL 1 TRANSFORMATIVE OPTION, the latter having PERSISTING PRESENCE AS THE “BASE CASE AWARENESS” in the INDIGENOUS ABORIGINAL CULTURE (i.e. by way of AWARENESS of the STRANDS IN THE WEB INTERCONNECTION and INTERDEPENDENCE).

 

SO, WHAT WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS ARE FACED WITH IN OUR NEEDED UPGRADING BACK FROM simple binary (EITHER/OR) logic to less simple nonbinary (BOTH/AND) logic is something that might be compared to the challenge of changing the tires on one’s car while speeding down the road in it.  or to putting HUMPTY-DUMPTY ALL TOGETHER AGAIN after his fall from the wall.

IT ARRIVES AT THE HOPELESSNESS OF FINDING RESOLVE BETWEEN CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS, BOTH OF WHICH, HAVING GIVEN FOUNDATIONAL STATUS TO SIMPLE BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC in their respective LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING SCHEMES, since the subject matter under review incorporates LESS SIMPLE BOTH/AND LOGIC of the INCLUDING MEDIUM. 

 

This issue was previously discussed in an equivalent context of the DROP OUT of ‘RIGHT BRAIN THINKING” and RELIANCE on ‘LEFT BRAIN THINKING’ ONLY, in Neuroscience.

In other words, “IMPOSSIBLE”.  MEANWHILE, WE ALL HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF LEVEL 1 AWARENESS IF NOT AN IN-COMMON LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING SCHEME TO DELIVER AND SHARE IT; i.e. WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS APPEAR NEITHER AWARE OF THE NEED FOR AND THE VALUE OF AN UPGRADING TO NONBINARY LOGIC, WITHOUT WHICH THERE IS NO IMPETUS FOR BREAKING OUT OF OUR UNRESOLVABLE CONSERVATIVE – LIBERAL HEAD-BUTTING WHEREIN BOTH OPPOSING FACTIONS ARE DRIVEN BY THEIR MISTAKEN BINARY LOGIC based BELIEF in THEIR OWN POWERS OF LOCAL and EXPLICIT AUTHORING of ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS.  OUR TOO SIMPLE BINARY LOGIC BASED LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING OBSCURES the NONBINARY SENSE-EXPERIENCE AFFIRMED REALITY of our INCLUSION WITHIN THE TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM.
