PROLOGUE: The all-inclusive wave-field aka ‘the Tao’ is ineffable as it is the all-including ‘flow’ that is purely relational and ‘all there is’ so that there is nothing LOCAL to give us a ‘fixed reference point’ that we can start to give grounding to relational references on and thus construct a reality that will be EXPLICIT rather than IMPLICIT.  There is nothing LOCAL or EXPLICIT within the wave-field continuum or ‘Tao’ wherein ‘everything is in flux’.  But there are ‘resonances’ in a wave-field and resonances can APPEAR to be LOCAL THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES.  For example ‘duning’ is a resonance feature within the transforming relational continuum (wherein everything is in flux).  All of that is available to our sensory experience, but in order to make it intellectually shareable so that we can share and learn from our respective experiences, we need some sort of ‘language’ for referring to forms in the flow, and once we adorn a form with a ‘name’ we make it out to be a ‘fixed thing-in-itself’ that we can ‘talk about’ without it transforming into something else while we are opening our mouth to use a ‘name’ to refer to it.

Language and grammar are tools that allow us to ‘effable-ize’, in a very imperfect LOCAL (identity-fixing) way and thus to share crude (because-reduced-to-name-instantiated-abstract-things-in-themselves) re-presentations of our fluid sensory experience. While the culture of the EAST has not forgotten that ‘the Tao that can be told is not the true Tao’, the WEST, as Emerson has put it, has allowed the tool (of language based effable-zing of the ineffable Tao) ‘to run away with the workman, the human with the divine’.

In other words, the WEST employs language and grammar based reductionist representations of reality as EXPLICIT representations as if that which is LOCAL is REAL, …  while the EAST employs language and grammar representations of reality as IMPLICIT representations that merely INFER a reality that is in continual flux and that lies innately beyond capture in explicit terms.

The following is a copy of a message shared with friends and family to point out the aberrant thinking that is being propagated by adherence to Western culture language-based conceptualizing of reality, distinguishing this aberrant WESTERN reality conceptualizing from sensory experience grounded EASTERN and modern physics reality conceptualizations..

INTRODUCTION (as in message as originally sent)

 

Appended below is a message I sent to some of my (WESTERN) family’ and friends in regard to the differences between EAST and WEST ‘reality’, pointing out that my own view is that the ‘reality’ of the WEST is bogus and is breeding aberrant thinking and behaving for reasons explained in the note.

The appeal of the concept of ‘anthropogenic global warming’ and the appeal of Greta Thunberg as an innocent and beyond-politics motivated ‘believer’ in AGW  is part of the WEST’s aberrance.

The belief in man’s powers of sourcing ANYTHING is aberrant thinking.  ‘anthropogenic power of ‘sorcery’  has been pointed out to be nothing more than a  ‘double error’ of language and grammar by Nietzsche.  This conclusion is supported by ‘modern physics reality’, ‘indigenous aboriginal reality’, ‘Taoist/Buddhist and Advaita Vedanta reality’.   There is no such thing as ‘sorcery’ (outside of the intellect tickled into creative imaginings).  ‘Sorcery’ aka ‘the producer-product concept’ aka ’cause-and-effect’ is a language-stimulated intellectual conceptualization that ‘conjures up’ the notion of LOCAL sourcing of actions and developments.  LOCAL sourcing is a concept necessitated by the need to ‘effable-ize’ the ‘real’ world of our inclusion in the ineffable transforming relational continuum, aka ‘the Tao’, the world of our actual sensory experience wherein there is no such thing as “LOCAL” which is what makes the Tao ineffable (everything is in flux).  LOCAL is a device of language and grammar that serves our purpose of effable-izing the ineffable-because-innately-NONLOCAL wave-field continuum (‘the Tao’).

In fact , the error of grammar’, as Nietzsche calls it, which is used to FABRICATE the abstract concept of LOCAL EXISTENCE OF THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES does not constrain itself to imputing the power of sorcery to man, it imputes the power of sorcery to any name-instantiated thing-in-itself, including not only ‘humans’ but ‘nations’, ‘corporations’, ‘volcanos’, ‘rivers’, ‘hurricanes’, … “you name it”.

the ‘archetype’ for this ‘sorcery’ is set up by our own WESTERN ‘ego’ sense of ‘self’ (as a LOCAL agent with innate powers of sorcery) and it ECLIPSES (or steals the spotlight from) the entirely NONLOCAL RELATIONAL TRANSFORMATION that we are included in (the ‘wave-field’ aka ‘the Tao’).  That is, once we exclude from our intellectual reality constructing ‘duning’ (nonlocal resonance) give credit to ‘dunes’ for their own development (“the dunes are growing higher and longer”) and movement (“the dunes are shifting across the desert floor”), … we have totally lost ‘intellectual grasp’ of the all-including ‘transformation’ (aka ‘the Tao’ aka ‘the wavefield’) which is the real pre-lingual dynamic silently informing our sensory experience.

‘Sorcery’, whether instantiated with the words ’cause-and-effect’ or ‘producer-product’ is a WESTERN mythical (intellectual abstraction-contrived) dynamic that derives from EGO, our ‘sorcerer’-sense-of-self’.  Our dressing it up in an intellectually respectable name like ‘the producer-product dynamic’ doesn’t change the basic reality that it is BULLSHIT, … or as Nietzsche calls it, ‘the double error’ of language and grammar where the ‘first error’ is ‘naming’ that imputes the abstract LOCAL independent existence of a notional ‘thing-in-itself, … and the second error, which conflates the first error, being ‘grammar’ which imputes the power of SOURCING actions and developments to the name-instantiated thing-in-itself.

relational transformation, aka the wavefield dynamic aka ‘the Tao’, the reality of the EAST, is effectively ECLIPSED or WALLPAPERED OVER by WESTERN double error based reality constructions. The surrogate ‘double error’ based pseudo-reality becomes the new ‘operative reality’ wherein relational forms-in-the-flow such as ‘humanings’ are re-presented in the intellectualizing mind as name-instantiated things-in-themselves with their own powers of sourcing actions and developments, notional LOCAL power-sourcing capability that is otherwise known as EGO.

The Greta Thunberg syndrome (an EGO based belief in humans as LOCAL things-in-themselves with LOCAL powers of sorcery) which is common within ‘one part’ of the divided Western culture is the tip of a delusional iceberg, which will hopefully undergo culture-shifting meltdown before crushing those things that happen to find themselves in its path.

While Donald Trump is also a believer in ‘sorcery’, in his case, the tragedies of others may be energizing for him; i.e. foreclosures are an opportunity in economic slumps to bolster one’s ‘powers of sorcery’ (one’s producer-product powers as understood in ‘double error’ terms), …. and as in Shakespeare’s Henry IV, one person’s misfortune can be another’s gain;

PRINCE HENRY: Why, then, it is like if there come a hot June, and this civil buffeting hold, we shall buy maidenheads as they buy hob- nails, by the hundreds.

SO, … if we see human conflict in the binary plus-and-minus terms of winning and losing, then we will be unable, at the same time, to see ‘transformation’.  Likewise, we may see the LOCAL mountain shrinking and the :LOCAL fjord and valley filling in, because our language can’t deal with the NONLOCAL (transformation is innately relational/NONLOCAL and thus NOT EXPLICITLY EFFABLE, forcing us to treat of it in language by way of IMPLICIT reference aka ‘inference’).  While language opens up the way to ‘sharing’ ABSTRACT REDUCTIONS of our experiencing of the ineffable (as fluid forms within the flow), it does so by reducing the NONLOCAL AND THUS INEFFABLE to the double error based LOCAL and thus EFFABLE that is in terms of name-instantiated things-in-themselves, notionally with their own powers of action and development.  Thus the NONLOCAL resonance phenomenon of ‘duning’ is reduced to the LOCAL phenomenon of ‘the DUNE’ that ‘grows higher and longer’ and ‘shifts across the desert floor’.

This intellectual abstraction based INJECTION of LOCAL sorcery is the device that reduces the ineffable to the effable as serves the WEST as our SURROGATE REALITY.

Nevertheless, the EAST (and modern physics) are right in using the effable-because-reduced-to-LOCAL only as inference that points to the ineffable-because-NONLOCAL  reality (the Tao that cannot be told) that is understood as the primary reality.

Whereas the EAST and modern physics uses language as a tool of implicit INFERENCE, the WEST and Newtonian physics use language as a tool of EXPLICIT ‘call-a-spade-a-spade’ thing-in-itself DEFINITION.

For your possible interest, …. this is a note with observations in regard to the difference between our commonly perceived WESTERN and EASTERN conceptions of ‘reality’.

Although living within a WESTERN culture family and social collective, my understanding of reality is EASTERN which accords with modern physics.  From this EASTERN reality point of view, our WESTERN culture dynamic is taking us down a crazy path, so this note is to share a view of what is meant by ‘crazy path’ in terms of the implications this may have for us.  Of course, we could ‘flip’ from WESTERN to EASTERN reality at any time and I seem to have already made this flip in understanding (if not totally ‘in practice’) since I am very aware of how my understanding of things resonates with that of the EAST and conflicts with that of the WEST.

It is natural for me to want to share this because my sense is that the dominant forces in today’s world are taking us down the path of WESTERN reality (which is not ‘reality’ but delusion) so that we will be generating for ourselves a lot of dissonance and discordance within our living space and our relations therein.   As a minority (wrt this way of understanding)  within the dominant WESTERN culture adhering populace, I don’t have an option to FULLY recuse myself from participation in (and thus experiencing of) the dissonance that is arising from the impact of WESTERN aberrant reality.

Not even indigenous aboriginals, however, true they are to their traditional thinking and understanding traditions, can live the lifestyles they would like to live while immersed in a sea of colonizers whose social dynamics are coming from very different understandings of ‘reality’.

My personal experience is somewhat different, yet in many ways akin to the situation of the indigenous aboriginal who doesn’t believe in WESTERN culture’s version of ‘reality’, but is forced to make the best of it because of being included in its dominant social dynamic.

I would love to be able to express ‘my findings’ simply and briefly, but so would the indigenous aboriginal peoples like to share their view of reality with those us coming from a European cultural orientation, but movement in that direction (mutual sharing and understanding) hasn’t progressed too far.    I believe that those of indigenous aboriginal cultural background intuit, as I also intuit, why that sharing hasn’t, in any significant measure, come to pass, and David Bohm and Nietzsche have written about this, as well, as will be explored.

It is because the understanding of modern physics, and indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta requires a more comprehensive logic (intuition) than the logic (reason) we Western culture adherents have learned how to use as a means of understanding reality.

But right UPFRONT, I need to make clear my view that ‘The reality (theTao aka the wave-field) that can be told is not the true Tao’.  This is a direct statement of the fact that this language I am using right now as I write about these issues, is inherently inadequate for conveying the understanding that I am trying to convey, which entails NOLOCALITY as associates with ‘resonance’ (e.g. the nonlocality of duning which we speak of in the reduced terms of LOCAL dunes).  The limitation of language is that it employs words that, once uttered, just sit there and keep saying the same thing and thus can only go so far as to ‘allude to’ the flowing wave-field reality we are included in wherein ‘everything is in continuing flux’.

This ineffability of our inclusion in ‘the FLOW’ hasn’t stopped all efforts to ARTICULATE our sensory experience of inclusion in the flow ‘dead in the water’ since we have ‘tools of inference’ such as the ‘surprise version of the game of Twenty Questions’ suggested in modern physics by Geoffrey Chew and John Wheeler, which we can use to ‘infer’ a fluid reality by way of inference based on the relations among a matrix of name-labelled ‘things-in-themselves’.

Exploring language in a relational mode to INFER a fluid reality that is beyond EXPLICIT language based capture is the central challenge of representation in modern physics and the reason why Bohm differentiates between the ‘implicate order’ and ‘explicate order’.

Since we Western culture adherents are very much attached to the use of ‘binary logic’, which is very limiting for any discussions involving a fluid reality, the deployment of non-binary logic becomes necessary.  Since logic tends to play a foundational role in our spoken constructions of ‘reality’ that we use to share our experiences of inclusion in the Tao, it is important to consider how non-binary logic (the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium) gives us more explanatory scope that the common EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium.

To get a mental grasp of the commonalities and differences between the two logics, consider FIGURE and GROUND as in a ‘whorl’ in ‘flow’.  We can understand the WHORL and the FLOW in an EITHER/OR sense in which case we can imagine that the FLOW sources the WHORL and/or the WHORL sources the FLOW (this leads to the Zen koan of wind and flag where it is ambiguous as whether the movement of the flag sources the movement of the air, or the movement of the air sources the movement of the flag, an ambiguity that is resolves by the understanding that there is no such thing as ‘sourcing’ or ‘sorcery’, there is only relational transformation)

Anyhow, in our WESTERN culture, BECAUSE WE MAKE COMMON USE OF THE EITHER/OR LOGIC OF THE EXCLUDED MEDIUM, WE CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE WITH THE AMBIGUITY IT INTRODUCES.  This ambiguity is what SPLITS the Western culture polarized views of conservative and liberal; i.e. the conservative view is that the action of the FIGURE (individual) stirs the GROUND (collective) into action while the liberal view is that the action of the GROUND (collective) stirs the FIGURE (individual) into action.  In colloquial terms, the conservative view is that “One bad apple spoils the barrel’ while the liberal view is that ‘It takes a whole community to raise a [good/bad] child”.

This artificial dichotomy builds form EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium.

In EASTERN culture, and also in modern physics, the logic of understanding is BOTH/AND logic of the included medium.  In FIGURE AND GROUND TERMS, the distinction between FIGURE and GROUND is only APPEARANCE as is the case with WHORL and FLOW in the physical reality of our actual sensory experience. It is only ‘naming’ (language and grammar) that imposes abstract notional ‘thing-in-itself being’ on both FIGURE and GROUND.

As Nietzsche points out, this mistake of conceiving of FIGURE and GROUND AS TWO SEPARATE AND INDEPENDENT THINGS comes from our use of language in a way that gives rise to ‘THE DOUBLE ERROR’ of language and grammar; the first error is where we use ‘naming’ to impute thing-in-itself being to a flow-form and conflate this with the second error of grammar to impute the power of sourcing actions and developments to the name-instantiated thing-in-itself (first error).

IT IS IMPERATIVE TO AVOID THE USE OF ‘EITHER/OR’ LOGIC OF THE EXCLUDED MEDIUM IF WE ARE GOING TO ‘GET INTO THE BOTH/AND’ (MODERN PHYSICS) VIEW OF REALITY.  Mixing in EITHER/OR logic with BOTH/AND logic confuses the issue since the former is ‘lower dimensional’ than the latter.  For example, if one starts talking in terms of ‘dunes’ that are growing larger and shifting along the desert floor, one has reduced to 3 dimensions, the relational resonance phenomena that is 4+ dimensional.

If we mix together talk of ‘dunes’ (double error based talk) and ‘duning’ (nonlocal resonance) we are mixing together two different realities involving as associate with different ‘dimensionality’.  If you accept the LOCAL double error based imagery of ‘dunes moving’, the NONLOCAL mode of understanding is immediately ECLIPSED and only the LOCAL mode of understanding will present itself.  The LOCAL concept is injected like the Cuckoo’s egg into the sparrows nest, where it sucks up all the supporting nourishments that would have fed a more sophisticated development, thus superseding and eclipsing that more sophisticated development.

If “you and your friends” all talk about ‘the dune’ that is ‘growing taller and langer and is shifting across the desert floor’, … how will I make an entrée to speak of the same phenomenon in the NONLOCAL terms of purely relational resonance?

I have experienced being ‘cornered’ in this ‘narrow-thinking’ situation many times, including in my presenting  the results of a company funded investigation I had led into the anatomy of ‘exceptionally performing teams’.  Our finding was that such teams let their actions serve the cultivating of harmonies within the suprasystem of relations they were included in; i.e. they let their actions be shaped in the service of sustaining harmony within the web of relations they were included in.  But when ‘the CEO’ inquired as to WHO on the team, was ‘most responsible’ for ‘SOURCING the team’s excellent results’, such an inquiry implied and imposed a notional LOCAL INCIPIENT SOURCING of results, whereas, the exceptional team’s approach had been to let go of its own LOCAL ontological ‘being’ and ‘become one with everything’; i.e. letting its actions be inductively shaped in the service of cultivating resonances within the relational suprasystem it was included in.

HOLD ON TO THIS THOUGHT!  The reality of our actual sensory experience as in the case of inclusion in a field of resonance where ‘duning’ manifests involves NONLOCALITY which is beyond the expressive capability of 3-dimensional geometry.  For example, ‘duning’ is relational resonance that is inherently NONLOCAL and falls into Bohm’s IMPLICATE ORDER as distinguished from EXPLICATE ORDER.

IF WE DON’T HOLD ON TO THIS THOUGHT, our Western language and grammar traditions will suck us into our old habit of reducing our sensory experiencing of reality to intellectual content in a manner where our voyeur visualzing that splits apart ‘what’s in here’ from ‘what’s out there’ hijacks our thinking.  In this case, IT IS NOT OUR SENSORY EXPERIENCING BUT OUR INTELLECTUAL REASONING that dominates in our ‘understanding’.  For example, the virgin with a Ph.D. in sexual relations can be MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE on the topic than his/her highly experienced but less educated parents.  As Heraclitus observed; ‘The knowledge of many things does not teach understanding’.

So, there is quite a bit to talk about in this discussion on WESTERN and EASTERN conceptions of ‘reality’ and as I am pointing out, the EAST opens the gates of understanding WIDER than the WEST in terms of the ‘dimensionality’ of language-based ‘reality constructions’.  In particular, the EAST, along with modern physics, employs the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium in primary position in its intellectual reality constructions, relegating the EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium to a secondary support role.  Meanwhile, the WEST employs the EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium in its language and grammar based ‘reality constructions’ that serve as the primary and ONLY basis of  intellectual reality construction.

I think I have probably said enough here to (a) share an understanding of what I understand as the difference between the intellectual articulation of ‘reality of the EAST’ and the intellectual articulation of the ‘reality of the WEST’, and to (b) convey my belief that the ‘reality of the EAST’ is closer to capturing our experiencing of the ineffable NONLOCAL Tao than is the ‘reality of the WEST’.

Having expressed my view that I believe the ‘articulated (effable) stories of reality of the EAST’ are closer to conveying our INEFFABLE experience of inclusion in the Tao than the ‘articulated (effable) stories of reality of the WEST’, I could go on to cross compare the realities of the EAST and WEST and point out the differences that lead do differences in both understanding and behaviour.  There is a lot to say on this topic so I will hold this to a few sort examples that, for me, penetrate to the source of EAST – WEST divergence in understanding and thus in behaviours;

-1- EGO.  The double error has us Western culture adherents believing that we are the LOCAL SOURCE of actions and developments.  This is the same ‘DOUBLE ERROR’ that we make when we REDUCE ‘boiling’ and ‘duning’ with language and grammar by using ‘naming’ to impute local thing-in-itself existence to the ‘BOIL’ and to the ‘DUNE’ and conflate this first error with the second error of GRAMMAR to impute to the ‘thing-in-itself’ the powers of sourcing actions and developments.  This DOUBLE ERROR is the source of ‘ego’, setting the stage for ego-inflation and ego deflation, both of which are WESTERN CULTURE SELF-DECEPTIONS coming from the ‘double error’ of language and grammar.

-2- The ego-based belief that humans are the source of global warming (the Greta Thunberg Syndrome)

The attribution of powers of sorcery to name-instantiated things-in-themselves per the ‘double error’ of language and grammar is not only the source of mental aberrance as in the belief in one’s own powers of sorcery (aka ‘ego’), but arises generally whenever a ‘name’ is used together with grammar in a ‘double error’ combination.   This name-instantiated ‘double error’ gives rise to the ‘producer-product’ abstraction that, in the Western culture intellect, ‘wallpapers over’ relational transformation with pictures of double-error based ‘producer-product’ transactions.   In physical reality, we are included in the transforming relational continuum (‘the Tao’ aka the ‘wave-field’), but Western culture’s use of language and grammar ‘pops us out of the Tao’ and recasts us as name-instantiated LOCAL things-in-ourselves notionally with our own powers of sourcing actions and developments.

We Western culture adherents do this name-based ‘popping out’ of not only ‘humans’ but ‘nations’ and ‘corporations’ and other relational forms such as ‘hurricanes’ and ‘dunes’ and ‘automobiles’ and ‘planes’ and ‘ships’ etc. etc.   This use of language enables us to effable-ize and overcome the ineffable nature of the Tao aks the wave-field, re-rendering the ineffable-relational in the double error based ‘effable’ terms of name-instantiated things-in-themselves with notional powers of sourcing actions and developments; e.g. ‘duning’ (relational resonance’ is reduced to ‘dunes’ that grammar can give us the intellectual impression of their ‘growing longer and higher’ and ‘shifting across the desert floor’.

Greta Thunberg is regarded by Western culture adherents as an ‘archetype’ in the pursuit of social change.   Such archetypes are, in the Western culture double error based pseudo-reality constructing mode, name-instantiated things-in-themselves we call ‘humans’ which are seen as the ‘source’ of actions and developments.  This is the ‘producer-product’ abstraction  that is an archetype in the WEST and it is the cornerstone of the ‘anthropogenic global warming’ belief.

That is, if one believes that there are things-in-themselves called humans (EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NO ‘THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES IN MODERN PHYSICS) with powers of sourcing actions and developments [as in the ‘double error’ of grammar], then it follows, logically, that humans may be the SOURCE of problematic developments in the world.  This ‘LOCAL SORCERER’ based view MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL in modern physics, nor in the relational understanding of reality of indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta.

That is, there are no ‘LOCAL SOURCES of actions and developments’ in the world understood as a transforming relational continuum.  Furthermore, we know that the intellectual concept of ‘LOCAL SOURCING of actions and developments’ comes from a ‘double error’ of language and grammar, and we know from our sensory experiencing of inclusion in the Tao (wave-field), that Subject and Object are ONE.  The Western culture thesis of anthropogenic global warming, which imputes the existence of humans as things-in-themselves with their own powers of sourcing actions and developments (the ‘double error’), a thesis for which Greta Thunberg has become the ‘poster-child’, is in direct conflict with the understandings of modern physics, indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta, where reality is understood as relational transformation which does not depend on the abstraction of sorcery’.

Yes, it is true that, as relational resonances forming in the Tao we might call ‘humanings’ (by analogy to the relational resonances of ‘duning’ rather than ‘dunes’) WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE, … but there is no sense, within a fluid dynamic, that WE ARE double error abstractions; i.e. name-instantiated things-in-themselves’ with our own powers of sourcing actions and developments.  The ‘difference’ we make is NONLOCAL rather than LOCAL.  There is no such thing as ‘LOCAL’ in a transforming relational continuum; i.e. the ‘flow-continuum’ aka ‘the Tao’ or ‘the Wave-field’.

CLOSING NOTES:

My understanding, an understanding consistent with the EAST and with modern physics, is that the split between the conservative view of reality and the liberal view of reality is a crazy-maker; i.e. it is a spurious schizophrenic splitting found in WESTERN CULTURE that impacts those who fall on either one side (e.g. the conservative side) or the other side (e.g. the liberal side) so as to put them into one of two  polarized common belief based groups, … but the sensitive miner’s canaries among them that resist ‘taking sides’ in an us versus them splitting manner, may ‘swallow’ this innate WESTERN culture EITHER/OR logic based splitting and thus ‘field’ and embody the splitting within themselves (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia).

Within the cultures of the EAST and within modern physics, there is no splitting apart of FIGURE and GROUND and/or INHABITANT and HABITAT, such being only APPEARANCE based rather than ‘ONTOLOGICAL FACT’ as intellectually understood by WESTERN culture adherents.

In fact, all of those culture oddities of the WEST that associate with binary logic; i.e. the EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium as represented by FIGURE and GROUND that are mutually exclusive, disappear in modern physics and in the understanding of reality of the EAST, where the operative logic is the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium where FIGURE and GROUND are DISTINGUISHED on the basis of APPEARANCE, a distinguishing that is NOT ontology based but ‘appearance’ based.

So, in the EAST, FIGURE and GROUND are ONE and the distinction is APPEARANCE.  In terms of representation, this requires 4+ dimensional representation and visual sensing can only go to 3 dimensions.  That is, we can feel inclusion in resonance (which requires more than 3 dimensions) but such sensory experience lies beyond 3 dimensional representation.

In the WEST, FIGURE and GROUND are TWO and the distinction is ONTOLOGICAL.  This is handled with 3-dimensional geometry.  Once we start talking (using language-based representation) in terms of ‘dunes’, notionally with their own (grammar-given) actions and developments, the NONLOCAL resonance based phenomena of ‘duning’ is lost (it drops out of our intellectualizing due to the representational inadequacy of 3-dimensional geometry).

In the understanding of the EAST, the reality is nevertheless NONLOCAL and thus beyond capture in 3 dimensional geometry.  However, there are languages of inference that are capable of alluding to relational reality that lies beyond 3-dimensional representation (such as the surprise version of the game of Twenty Questions).  Such languages are employed because of their capability of alluding to reality that transcends the representational limits of 3-dimensional geometry.  Such 4+ dimensional geometry associates with the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium wherein ‘FIGURE and GROUND are ONE (they merely take on the APPEARANCE of TWO as in the ‘dune’ and the ‘desert floor’ which are in fact ‘ontologically’ ONE.

There are many understanding of phenomena that fall out very differently in the respective cultures of EAST and WEST due to the different cultural preferences regarding these two flavours of logic.

For my own part, my experience informs me that the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium gives me understanding that is in harmony with my experience.  Of course, I have been taught to put the EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium in first priority, as this is where the WESTERN concepts of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ and ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ come from, whereas, in the EAST, one has the relational choices of ‘harmony’ and ‘dissonance’ as relate to NONLOCALITY; i.e. the harmony or dissonance in the relational dynamics of many vehicles moving in freeway traffic flow may be sustained even in the presence of the introduction of dissonance, as when a rabbit darts across the freeway.  While most everyone in the flow may have an ethic of sustaining relational harmony, a collision may ensure, and while in the EASTERN view this is a NONLOCAL phenomena, our WESTERN culture will impose LOCAL event framing on it, and such LOCALIZING ‘reduces’ the dynamic to terms of a ‘perpetrator’ and ‘victim’, a binary interpretation that sets the stage for the WESTERN system of JUSTICE in general, and thus a standard cultural view of ‘reality’ in terms of LOCAL dynamics.

In EASTERN understanding of reality, not even the ostensibly (visually) ‘local’ event of ‘murder’ would be interpreted in the abstract term of a LOCAL phenomenon; e.g. Bohm’s example of the death of Lincoln;

“In the book ‘Causality and Chance in Modern Physics’ Bohm argued that the way science viewed causality was also much too limited. Most effects were thought of as having only one or several causes. However, Bohm felt that an effect could have an infinite number of causes. For example, if you asked someone what caused Abraham Lincoln’s death, they might answer that it was the bullet in John Wilkes Booth’s gun. But a complete list of all the causes that contributed to Lincoln’s death would have to include all of the events that led to the development of the gun, all of the factors that caused Booth to want to kill Lincoln, all of the steps in the evolution of the human race that allowed for the development of a hand capable of holding a gun, and so on, and so on. Bohm conceded that most of the time one could ignore the vast cascade of causes that had led to any given effect, but he still felt it was important for scientists to remember that no single cause-and-effect relationship was ever really separate from the universe as a whole.”  –The Holographic Universe: The Revolutionary Theory of Reality: Michael Talbot:

Having explored the approaches to understanding reality of both EAST and WEST, I have come to accept the naturalness of the of EASTERN understanding of reality, which is also affirmed in modern physics and in my own philosophical investigations into ‘wave-field’ phenomena in geophysics.

So, this is my ‘confession’ if you like, or simply my open expression of my natural sensory-intuitive aligning with the reality of the EAST and my corresponding distancing from the reality of the WEST; i.e. the reality of the WEST as expressed in newspapers, on television, in politics and in business, all of which are ‘governed’ by the EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium, at least in their intellectual formulations and popular expression.

Meanwhile, even in a WESTERN social collective, when it comes to watching dramatic presentations of Jean Valjean in Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, this brings forward the BOTH/AND logic of the included medium where FIGURE and GROUND (inhabitant and habitat, individual and collective) can be understood as ONE.  In this case, our understanding is in terms of NONLOCAL inclusion in relational harmony or dissonance, and this higher-dimensional understanding is restored, in ‘Les Misérables’ to its natural precedence over our WESTERN base case of squinty-eyed voyeur viewing in terms of the LOCAL double error based concept of a LOCAL ‘thing-in-itself’, notionally with its own powers of sourcing actions and developments which are binarily judged as  EITHER ‘GOOD’ OR ‘EVIL”.

My experience is that in the reality of our every day sensory experience, the social dynamic can be somewhat relaxed and informal as to ‘which logic’ to follow, however, in our formal and official WESTERN CULTURE social system, EITHER/OR logic of the excluded medium is sustained as the ‘officially supported’ operative understanding.

As nonlinear systems theorists would say, ‘we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are ‘locked in by high switching costs’; i.e. by our long term building into our social collective habit the binary bias of REWARDING GOOD and PUNISHING EVIL, an outlook that demands understanding in the REDUCTIVE terms of LOCAL actions and developments (a double error based pseudo-reality) thus over-riding the ‘real reality’ of ongoing relational transformation.

Meanwhile, the EAST (and modern physics) does not fall prey to this mistake of treating the reductive double error based pseudo-reality as the ‘operative reality’ but instead employs double error constructions as ‘Wittgenstein ladders’ or ‘intuition-stimulating springboards’ that facilitate a leap to the greater, ineffable understanding of our experiencing of inclusion in the NONLOCAL (wave-field, Tao) that lies innately beyond the intellectual language and grammar contrived LOCAL pseudo-reality.

6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.

The world we live in; i.e. the world of our sensory experience of inclusion within the transforming relational continuum aka ‘the Tao’ or ‘the wave-field’, …  is a transforming relational continuum that is beyond capture in LOCAL terms as in language and grammar based reductions.  Since we, ourselves, are inclusions within the Tao (the indigenous aboriginal ‘Great Mystery’, the ‘wave-field’), the abstracting power of language that allows us to RE-PRESENT ourselves as LOCAL thing-in-our-self entities notionally with ‘our own’ powers of sourcing actions and developments [the ‘double error’], is hugely useful in giving us an ‘effable reduction’ of the ineffable experience of inclusion in the Tao.  Language and grammar allow us to intellectually ‘get outside of ourselves’ and look in ourselves so that we are, at the same time, ‘subject’ and ‘object’.  This intellectual subject and object splitting delivers abstraction that is not consistent with our sensory experience of inclusion in the Tao.  Because this point is elusive in our Western culture conditioned minds, I will close this discussion by highlighting these two important ‘reminders’;

APPENDIX:  An ‘oblique’ perusal of the above material to enhance the perspectival understanding on this topic of ‘reality’.

REALITY is inclusion in the transforming relational continuum (the Tao).

REALITY is thus ineffable since it is continually in flux and we are part of this flux.

There are ‘ineffability work arounds’ that deliver reduced, but at least effable and therefore shareable portrayals of reality.  These come in two flavours; that of the EAST and that of the WEST

The challenge is to overcome, in effable construction, the inherent NONLOCAL and NON-STATIC nature of reality where EVERYTHING IS IN FLUX which is what makes reality ‘ineffable’.  In order to extract an effable reduced surrogate of reality, EAST and WEST have adapted two different effable-izing approaches.  By ‘effable-izing’, what is intended is that one employs inference based on the abstractions of LOCAL THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES and “THEIR” MOVEMENT.  Both of these ABSTRACT PROPS that conjure up visual impressions in the mind are unreal abstractions that are not found in the Tao (wave-field), but they do EMULATE (trigger in our abstraction based intellectualizing capability) fluid forms in the transforming relational continuum, the reality of our sensory experience of inclusion therein.

 

THE EAST employs these props in relational configurations so as to never commit to the abstraction of LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF BEING, nor therefore to never conflate such abstraction by using ‘grammar’ to impute the power of authorship (sorcery) to these name-instantiated things-in-themselves.  In this EAST approach, the relational dynamic is the primary ‘take-away’ while the ‘named things’ are secondary expedients employed in support of the primary goal of INFERRING relational transformation;

IN THE WEST, in the example of ‘duning’ which is NONLOCAL purely relational resonance phenomena, this can be NOTIONALLY REDUCED in the intellectualizing mind, by way of a ‘double error’ of language and grammar (Nietzsche) to a LOCAL thing-in-itself notionally with ITS OWN powers of sourcing actions and developments.  The first error is ‘naming’ that falsely imputes INDEPENDENT THING-IN-ITSELF BEING to the named fluid form.  The second error conflates the first error by imputing the power of SOURCING actions and developments to the naming-instantiated thing-in-itself.  Thus, in the WEST, the NONLOCAL dynamics of reality are replaced with abstract NOTIONAL (name-instantiated) things-in-themselves with abstract grammar-given powers of sourcing actions and developments.  We have in this double error, the basic ingredients for constructing an abstract pseudo-reality that can (and does in WESTERN society) become the ‘operative reality’; i.e. the reality, even though it is intellectual abstraction, that shapes ‘our actions and developments’.  HERE I SAY ‘OUR ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS’ which is already borrowing from the abstractions I am talking about; i.e. ‘humanings (relational forms in the Tao) are in such statements as ‘our actions and developments’, recasting ourselves in the intellectualizing mind as ‘humans’ (things-in-themselves with the double error based powers of sourcing actions and developments).

AS YOU CAN SEE, I AM ALREADY USING LANGUAGE THAT IS ‘DOUBLE ERROR INFECTED’, … IN TRYING TO DISCUSS HOW WE REDUCE OUR RELATIONAL EXPERIENCE TO RENDER IT EFFABLE IN LANGUAGE.  The impossibility of using a limited capability language to try to capture and share concepts that go beyond those limited capabilities is the contradiction that showed itself in Goedel’s theorem of the incompleteness of all finite systems of logic, which has been compared to a person trying to bite the nose on their own face. This basic LIMITATION OF OUR STANDARD WESTERN LANGUAGE is the reason that Bohm identified the need for a ‘Rheomode’ (flow-based) language so as to overcome the innate shortfall in the double-error based producer-product rhetoric of Europe (wherein ‘relational transforming goes missing’).

HOWEVER, Bohm discovered that flow-based language had already been developed in the EAST within indigenous aboriginal cultures;

A few months before his death, Bohm met with a number of Algonkian speakers and was struck by the perfect bridge between their language and worldview and his own exploratory philosophy. What to Bohm had been major breakthroughs in human thought — quantum theory, relativity, his implicate order and rheomode – were part of the everyday life and speech of the Blackfoot, Mic Maq, Cree and Ojibwaj.” – F. David Peat, ‘Blackfoot Physics’

Thus, it is not only POSSIBLE to avoid resorting to the ‘double error’ reduction where we reduce relational forms to abstract ‘things-in-themselves with notional grammar-given powers of sourcing their own actions and developments,…  such avoidance has already been put into operation in the languages of the EAST.  In the WEST, poetic language also has the appropriate attribute of avoiding the double error by using relational inference; “If a man’s grasp can’t exceed his reach, what’s a meta phor’?”, however, double error based rational reduction has now anchored itself in place by the nonlinear dynamic of ‘lock-in-by-high-switching cost’.  That is, the double error based language is the source of EGO and the attribution of abstract ‘powers of sorcery’ to abstract name-instantiated things-in-themselves’.

The ‘locked-in-by-high-switching-costs’ includes the disproportionate influence over change given to individuals on the basis of their producer-product achievements.  However, the producer product abstraction itself arises from a double error of grammar and obscures and wallpapers over, in the intellect, the sensory experience reality of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum.

Recalling that;

REALITY is inclusion in the transforming relational continuum (the Tao).

REALITY is thus ineffable since it is continually in flux and we are part of this flux.

… we have the situation that IN THE WEST, we are using the double error of language and grammar to ‘dodge’ ineffability of reality that is NONLOCAL by REDUCING REALITY to abstract terms of name-instantiated LOCAL things-in-themselves, notionally with their own powers of SOURCING actions and developments.  Such reduction involves an ONTOLOGICAL FIGURE AND GROUND SPLITTING that does not exist in the transforming relational continuum aka the TAO aka the Wave-field where such separateness is merely APPEARANCE BASED rather than ONTOLOGICAL REALITY as the double error of language and grammar makes it out to be.

CONCLUSION:

The EAST uses the naming of relational resonance based flow-forms (humaning, duning etc.) without imputing absolute thing-in-itself existence to these forms; e.g. ‘duning’ implies NONLOCAL relational resonance within the transforming relational continuum.

In the WEST, the name ‘dune’ reduces ‘duning’ from its NONLOCAL relational essence to abstract LOCAL thing-in-itselfness, whereupon ‘grammar’ must then be invented to abstractly ‘re-animate’ the language-created (name-instantiated) thing-in-itself.  This has been termed by the Presocratic philosophers ‘the burden of concreteness’.  The same is true of the double error reduction of ‘duning’ to ‘dune’ as in the reduction of ‘humaning’ to ‘human’.   There is an implicit loss of dimensionality here from the 4+ dimensionality [Mach] of IMPLICIT relational resonance as in ‘duning’ and ‘humaning’ to EXPLICIT FIGURE AND GROUND abstraction seen in visual picture terms that are 3 dimensional (the 3 dimensional ‘inhabitant’ in the 3 dimensional ‘habitat’.

This abstraction triggers visual imagery that ‘wallpapers over’ the ineffable fluid transforming relational continuum aka the Tao aka the wavefield).  Or perhaps more aptly in mixed metaphor terms, the injecting of this abstraction is like the Cuckoo’s injection of its egg in the nest of another system so that it can hijack the supportive resources of that system to feed and grow and take it over in the manner of the Trojan horse.  That is; the ‘double error’ is a phenomenon wherein incipient rationalism hijacks the natural primacy of intuitive relational experience; “the tool  (of rational intellection) runs away with the worker, the human with the divine” –Emerson.

In the EAST, ‘Dances with wolves’ is a relational reference that can contribute, together with other such relational references, to a relational matrix (a network of relations) that is like the ‘surprise version of the game of Twenty Questions’, inferring something that is purely relational and beyond the reach of EXPLICIT, LOCAL capture and which must remain IMPLICIT and NONLOCAL.

Thus the EAST sets up a matrix of relational reference but stops short of using language to explicitly capture (or attempting to explicitly capture) an explicit representation of ‘reality’; e.g;

In contrasting fashion, the WEST uses language in a double error based construction to GO ALL THE WAY WITH AN EXPLICIT APPROACH TO CAPTURING REALITY.  After Western culture adherents have ‘told it ‘rationally’ as ‘it actually, explicitly is’ (so-to-speak), there is nothing more left to understand, so just ‘READ MY LIPS’.

The confusion in the WESTERN psyche follows immediately from this delusional double-error-served-up-as-explicit-reality approach of the WEST.  The belief in sorcery (double error) based splitting of conservative and liberal ‘realities’ is the tip of the iceberg of double error based aberration. The binaries of ‘guilty’ and ‘innocent’ add to the aberration as does binary EITHER/OR logical ‘reasoning’ used for reality constructions in general.

While EAST employs language and grammar only to imply or infer a reality (Tao, wave-field) that is innately NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT, WEST employs language and grammar in ‘double error’ mode to construct an abstract LOCAL, EXPLICIT reality that serves WESTERN culture adherents as ‘our’ ‘operative reality, and this is a ‘crazy-maker’!
