The actions of REWARDING and PUNISHING induce in the rationalizing mind the impressions of LOCAL SORCERY aka LOCAL AUTHORSHIP.

 

That is; the presumption of a LOCAL AUTHOR  of an action or event is DELUSION born of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR (Nietzsche).

 

THERE ARE NO LOCAL AUTHORS in the REAL WORLD of our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum aka the Wave-field aka the Tao, thus there is no basis for inventing LOCAL AUTHORSHIP  to REWARD and PUNISH.

 

To employ the BINARY of REWARD and PUNISHMENT is to back-handedly invoke BELIEF IN SORCERY.  EGO and SORCERY have a common source (BINARY LOGIC).

 

INSPIRATION FILLS THE HEART while EGO SWELLS THE HEAD, is an aphorism that draws our attention to deeply rooted dysfunction in WESTERN CULTURE wherein EGO has hijacked our understanding of reality and brought with it BELIEF in the ABSTRACT RATIONAL ABSOLUTES of GOOD and BAD.

 

REWARDING and PUNISHING follows from this HIJACKING of our intellect by the BINARIES of GOOD and BAD.

 

As the Zen tale of the farmer and the wild horses illustrates, in our real-life sensory experience any event “may be good, may be bad” because REALITY is a CONTINUUM and does not BREAK DOWN into SEPARATE LOCAL EVENTS just because LANGUAGE is limited to expressing reality in this piecemeal manner.

 

If the unfolding reality we share sensory experience of inclusion in, is NOT CONSTITUTED BY A SERIES OF SEPARATE INCIDENTS and it is ONLY THE LIMITATIONS OF LANGUAGE THAT BREAK “OUR LANGUAGE BASED REPRESENTATION OF REALITY” DOWN INTO SEPARATE PIECES AKA ‘EVENTS’,  then we are exposed what has been described by Goedel’s Theorem as the INNATE INCOMPLETENESS of all finite logical propositions, such as the GOOD FORTUNE of having Wild horses come into one’s possession which may be followed by the MISFORTUNE of the farmer’s son breaking his leg while trying to train the wild horses which may be followed by the GOOD FORTUNE of being passed over in the local Warlord’s rounding up of all able-bodied men who go to their death in a battle in which they are hopelessly outnumbered.

 

Language is a scheme of REPRESENTATION that must, because of the limitations of language, break our representations of reality down into SEPARATE, MANAGEABLE (EFFABLE) PIECES, in spite of the REALITY wherein our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum is UNBROKEN IN SPACETIME.

 

The Zen story of the farmer and his horses emphasizes the errors in understanding that come with using language based representations that break things down into LOCAL, SEPARATE PARTS.  These language-expressible SEPARATE PARTS are just part of the REPRESENTATION SCHEME and REALITY is not ‘really’ broken into parts in this manner so that we are obliged, in receiving and interpreting language-based REPRESENTATIONS, to “PUT HUMPTY DUMPTY BACK TOGETHER AGAIN” and this is actually impossible, as the Zen story of the horses implies because REAL LIFE is our sensory experience of inclusion in a CONTINUUM; i.e. the transforming relational continuum aka the Wave-field aka the Tao.  “The Tao that can be told is not the true Tao” — Lao Tzu)

The point is that REWARDING AND PUNISHING TEACHES BELIEF IN SORCERY, a COGNITIVE DYSFUNCTION-INDUCING TRAP that is something that those understanding Modern physics, indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta DO NOT FALL PREY TO, since the latter comprehend sense-experience reality in terms of inclusion in a transforming relational continuum which is INEFFABLE-because NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT, as is the nature of the all-including Wave-field aka the Tao.

 

The EGO SWELLS and the EGO SHRIVELS from the impact of REWARDING AND PUNISHING so that the EGO becomes an ORIENTING FORCE THAT ALIGNS TO THAT WHICH IS REWARDED and AVOIDS THAT WHICH IS PUNISHED.  This BINARY LOGICAL BEHAVIOUR-SHAPING SYSTEM HAS HIJACKED, IN WESTERN CULTURE, THE NATURAL PRECEDENCE OF INSPIRATION, AS ASSOCIATES WITH MOVING SO AS TO TRANSFORM RELATIONAL DISSONANCE INTO RELATIONAL RESONANCE.

 

For a person moving within a transforming relational continuum as in driving in the flow of freeway traffic, the dynamics may become way too complex to follow simple binary rules so that one naturally revert to moving so as to continually recultivate relational harmony which at the same time starves out relational dissonance.  There is no BINARY LOGIC as could be induced by REWARD and PUNISHMENT in such spontaneous relational action herein one PUTS ONESELF IN THE SERVICE OF CULTIVATING RELATIONAL RESONANCE, … because such action is not LOCALLY AUTHORED BY ONESELF but is where one LETS GO of one’s LOCAL MALE-ASSERTING AUTHORING PUSH, and GIVES ONESELF UP to the cultivating and restoring of relational resonance.

 

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER (mitakuye oyasin) and therefor it makes NO SENSE to attempt to SUB-OPTIMIZE and seek to PERFECT INDIVIDUAL ACTION as attempted in REWARD and PUNISHMENT based behaviour-shaping.

In the flow of freeway traffic, as also in the BUMPER CAR GAME at the circus, there is lots of action and interaction but there is NO LOCAL AUTHORSHIP.  In our sensory experiencing of life in general, there is NO LOCAL AUTHORSHIP, there is only inclusion in a transforming relational continuum wherein it is impossible to isolate any LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and development.

 

WHAT WE DO KNOW, as Nietzsche has reminded us, IS THAT THE ABSTRACT CONCEPT OF “LOCAL AUTHORING” DERIVES FROM THE “DOUBLE ERROR” OF “NAMING” AND “GRAMMAR”.  THIS IS ABSTRACTION and what it does is CONSTRUCT A SUBSTITUTE REALITY using language based REPRESENTATIONS featuring a FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-TWO topology.  But in the flow of freeway traffic, we have the THREE+ body phenomena which we can no longer ‘model’ by using the notional ABSOLUTE EUCLIDIAN SPACE FRAME that we notionally impose so that we can IMAGINE a liberated FIGURE as in the FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-TWO topology.

 

Our EGO is very happy about this Euclidian space discovery which liberates the FIGURE from the GROUND and opens the way for a system of REWARDS and PUNISHMENTS based on LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments.

 

What is suggested here is that REWARD and PUNISHMENT is based on BINARY LOGIC ABSTRACTION  as is also THE BASIS OF the abstraction of SORCERY aka LOCAL AUTHORSHIP

 

If you bump me with your BUMPER CAR, my attempt to PUNISH YOU for that implies that you are the LOCAL AUTHOR or LOCAL SORCERER of the actions and SORCERY is a suitable word in that it suggests MAGIC or BEYOND REAL WORLD dynamics.  LOCAL SORCERY IS UNREAL ABSTRACTION YET REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS IMPLY THE REALITY OF LOCAL SORCERY, SUCH THAT REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS ARE A BACK-HANDED MEANS OF IMPUTING THE REALITY OF ‘LOCAL SORCERY’ AKA ‘LOCAL AUTHORSHIP’.

WEST: HURRICANE and ATMOSPHERE (FIGURE and GROUND) ARE TWO as given by BINARY LOGIC, the EITHER/OR logic of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM wherein the distinguishing of FIGURE from GROUND is understood to derive from their ONTOLOGICAL separate being.

 

The WEST inflicts further damage by this DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR based SPLITTING APART of FIGURE and GROUND because such ABSTRACT SPLITTING INTO FIGURE AND GROUND AS TWO, introduces AMBIGUITY as to whether THE FIGURE IS SOURCING THE STIRRING UP OF THE GROUND, OR WHETHER THE GROUND IS SOURCING THE STIRRING UP OF THE FIGURE.  THAT IS; DOES THE HIRRICANE STIR UP THE ATMOSPHERE OR DOES THE ATMOSPHERE STIR UP THE HURRICANE?

 

This AMBIGUITY fails to arise in the EAST where FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE, where TRANSFORMATION is the real dynamic and the separation of FIGURE and GROUND is APPEARANCE; i.e. the HURRICANE does not REALLY MOVE THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERE, instead the ATMOSPHERE IS HURRICANING in a FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE sense.

 

The WEST’s polarized division into Liberal and Conservative is a perception based MISTAKE that derives from the FIRST MISTAKE of assuming LOCAL AUTHORING aka LOCAL SORCERY such that arguments ensue as to whether the INDIVIDUAL’s action is the basic source of action of the SOCIAL COLLECTIVE (Conservative view) or whether the action of the SOCIAL COLLECTIVE is he basic source of action of the INDIVIDUAL.  If people were a social collection of iron filings, they might well polarize against one another on this same question of whether the dynamic is one-to-many sourced, or many-to-one-sourced, … so long as they forgot to take into account BEING INCLUDED IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN THEIR LOCAL SELVES, THAT ‘SOMETHING’ BEING AN ‘ENERGY FIELD’ THAT IS NOT ONLY THE SOURCE OF THEIR MOVEMENT BUT ALSO THE SOURCE OF THEIR PRECIPITATE MATERIAL BEING.

 

The EAST, by staying with the FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE understanding, DOES NOT FALL INTO THE TRAPS that open up once one embraces the FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-TWO abstraction; the traps of (a) INSTITUTING a REWARDS and PUNISHMENT scheme based on belief in LOCAL AUTHORSHIP, and (b) Instituting a MALE/FEMALE SOURCING AMBIGUITY that invokes Conservative and Liberal POLARIZED BIAS as the question of whether the dynamics of reality are ONE-TO-MANY (the [MALE] HURRICANE STIRS UP THE ATMOSPHERE) or MANY-TO-ONE (the [FEMALE]  ATMOSPHERE STIRS UP THE HURRICANE).

We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS WITHHOLD JUDGEMENT OF AUTHORSHIP on our children until we deem them ‘responsible adults’, but we are all the while impressing upon them the DOUBLE ERROR based belief that EACH OF US IS AN INDEPENDENT BEING WITH OUR OWN POWERS OF AUTHORSHIP OF ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS WHICH ‘MAY BE GOOD’ OR ‘MAY BE BAD’.  THIS CALLING INTO QUESTION of the REALITY OF THE NOTION OF LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments, occurs IN MODERN PHYSICS, INDIGENOUS ABORIGINAL CULTURES, TAOISM/BUDDHISM AND ADVAITA VEDANTA, bringing with it, a CALLING INTO QUESTION OF THE LOGIC OF REWARD AND PUNISHMENT since these practices are based on the NOTION OF LOCAL AUTHORING.

CURRENTLY, WE ARE ENGAGING IN AN IMAGINARY WAR AGAINST A MULTITUDE OF PATHOGENS TERMED COVID 19 VARIANTS, A WAR SEEKING TO ELIMINATE THE PERCEIVED ABOMINABLE “LOCAL AUTHORS’ OF ILLNESS, DISEASE AND DEATH.  Of course, in a relational understanding wherein the possible dynamics are constrained to relational resonance and dissonance, the COVID 19 experience, like scurvy and bacterial and viral pneumonia, will eventually be seen in terms of a collapse of relational balancing in the microbial assemblage that calls for a RESTORING OF RELATIONAL BALANCE, … the mission of the “ROBIN HOODS” that WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS REWARD WITH PUNISHMENT, by ignoring the relational reality of IMBALANCE and employing the SUBSTITUTE REALITY based on FIGURE and GROUND as TWO where dynamics are “explained” in terms of the actions of LOCAL FIGURES that notionally AUTHOR their own actions and developments within an EMPTY and INFINITE CONTAINING SPACE.  In this BINARY LOGIC BASED SUBSTITUTE REALITY, social dynamics are optimized by the REWARDING of GOOD ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS and the PUNISHING of BAD ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS.   This  SUBSTITUTE REALITY gets rid of the ambiguity of the BUMPER CAR VARIETY wherein LOCAL AUTHORING becomes impossible and thus the optimizing of social dynamics by way of REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS would then become impossible.

 

Like the CONFEDERACY OF DRUNKS who have lost in the dark unlit stretches of road what they then go looking for under the streetlight where the search conditions are so much better, the IDENTIFICATION OF AN AUTHOR is EXPEDIENT that enables management of the social dynamic on the basis of REWARDS and PUNISHMENTS. To this end, the BUMPER CAR DYNAMIC, which is a THREE+ BODY DYNAMIC, is as Newton pointed out, NOT reducible to LOCAL and EXPLICIT AUTHORSHIP terms.

WHERE WE ‘GO WRONG’ and by this ‘WE’ I mean WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS, who are the only ones who make this assumption of LOCAL AUTHORING is in confusing the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR, which is pure abstraction; e.g “ the TOWN is GROWING LARGER and MORE PRODUCTIVE” for REALITY, or rather, for employing such propositions as the basis for constructing a SUBSTITUTE REALITY on that basis.

The REAL REALITY is the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM within which THERE IS TOWNING in a FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE sense as is conveyed in Quantum LOGIC, the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium.  In this REALITY there is TOWNING in the TRANSFORMING LANDSCAPE, but there is no TOWN-THAT-IS-GROWING as that would imply that FIGURE (the TOWN) and GROUND (the COUNTRYSIDE) are TWO SEPARATE AND INDEPENDENT ONTOLOGIES (things-in-themselves).

To say that ‘the TOWN is GROWING’ instead of ‘THERE IS TOWNING’ is to INVENT a SUBSTITUTE REALITY wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-TWO rather than ONE.  According to our sensory experience, FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-only-ONE as Schroedinger and Bohm make clear.

Thus, THERE ARE NO REAL GROUNDS FOR REWARD and PUNISHMENT accorded to the notional LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and developments deemed beneficial or accorded to the notional LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and developments deemed harmful because THERE ARE NO LOCAL AUTHORS OF ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS!.  Such a notion is ABSTRACTION that derives from the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR as Nietzsche has pointed out.

WHAT IS THE NATURE OF REALITY?

WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS have accepted the concept of LOCAL AUTHORSHIP of actions and developments although it is abstraction coming from the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.   This DOUBLE ERROR incorporates BINARY LOGIC, the EITHER/OR logic of the EXCLUDED medium wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO.  This lets us speak in terms such as “the TOWN is GROWING” as if it were situated within a non-participating empty EUCLIDIAN space of infinite extent (the space that furnishes the independent GROUND that makes possible the independent GROWTH of the FIGURE-THING-IN-ITSELF).

Modern physics as also indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism (ref. the Tai-Chi or Yin/Yang symbol) and Advaita Vedanta, incorporate non-BINARY, “Quantum” LOGIC, the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE.  This has us speak in terms of TOWNING in the TRANSFORMING LANDSCAPE (wherein everything is in flux).  There are no TWO SEPARATE FIGURE AND GROUND THINGS here, the FIGURE is an APPEARANCE based feature of the TRANSFORMING GROUND.  THERE IS NO FIGURE-THING-IN-ITSELF in this Modern physics and EASTERN understanding, therefore there is no THING-that-is-GROWING.

The WESTERN CULTURE SUBSTITUTE REALITY is the ABSTRACT REALITY WHEREIN “REWARD” and “PUNISHMENT” seem to “MAKE SENSE” because “LOCAL AUTHORING” of actions and developments ARE SPOKEN ABOUT AS IF THEY ARE SOMETHING “REAL” even though “LOCAL AUTHORING” is “NOT REAL” as in the REAL REALITY of our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum, it is only REAL in the “SUBSTITUTE REALITY” of our DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR based constructions.

REWARDING and PUNISHING for LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments is PSYCHOLOGICAL ABBERANCE impacting WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS since such concepts are the artifacts of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR, as pointed out by Nietzsche.

CLASSIC among the variety of forms of LOCAL AUTHORING is that of the PATHOGEN, whether ROBIN HOOD or bacterial forms such as COVID 19 which emerge in conditions of relational IMBALANCE AND ARE WRONGLY IDENTIFIED AS “PATHOGENS” WHEN THEY ARE IN FACT THE MANIFESTING OF REBALANCING AGENCY induced by IMBALANCE IN THE RELATIONAL ASSEMBLAGE.

Actions taken to ELIMINATE the ROBIN HOOD rebalancing microbes do nothing to address the imbalance but instead helps to perpetuate the imbalance and to induce the evolution of new variant strains that adapt in an effort to overcome the opposition to their ‘rescue efforts’.

Like increasing the POLICE FORCE to prevent the POOR, who are seeking some measure of rebalance in a grossly out-of-balance RICH-versus-POOR situation, BOLSTERING the POLICE FORCE simply exacerbates a rising IMBALANCE and induces the evolving of new REBALANCNG VARIANTS, which may become ‘increasingly intense’ and ultimately, as in the Marie Antoinette experience, lead to a FULLBLOWN BREAKDOWN of the IMBALANCE-SUSTAINING REGIME, in order to achieve the needed rebalancing.

The development of more effective ANTI-PATHOGEN AGENTS such as POLICE and VACCINES fail to address a root problem of IMBALANCE and serves only to induce the evolving of new VARIANTS so long as the basic issue of IMBALANCE remains unaddressed.  On the other hand, the administering of re-balancing agents such as INTERFERON where there is an INTERFERON deficiency is ‘on the right track’ as with correcting vitamin C deficiencies with manifest as scurvy and 30 different forms of bacterial and viral pneumonia.

As in ROBIN HOOD’s and Marie Antoinette’s era, as also today, it proved impossible to convince ‘the authorities’ that the problem was one of IMBALANCE rather than ‘the PREFERRED INTERPRETATION OF THE ATTACK OF PATHOGENS’, so that investment in ANTI-PATHOGEN resources continued on until ‘new variants’ became strong enough to achieve the rebalancing being denied them, no thanks to the defenders of that imbalance and their single minded investment in ANTI-PATHOGEN technology.

History admires ROBIN HOOD and Jean Valjean for their ‘rebalancing effort’ but continues to support the Marie Antoinette’s, so much so that even as wage disparity between rich and poor has been rising to thousands-to-one ratios and entire populations of poor nations are streaming overland to try to scale the rising protective walls of the increasingly rich nations.  These migrating hordes may appear as PATHOGENS to the safely ensconced RICH, but as in ROBIN HOOD’s and JEAN Valjean’s era, they are REBALANCING AGENTS induced by rising relational IMBALANCE.  Anti-pathogen technologies will not address basic issues of IMBALANCE.

REWARD and PUNISHMENT are “LOCKED IN BY HIGH SWITCHING COSTS”.  This systems ‘lock-in’ of a faulty practice is the result of employing something in such a manner that it plays a FOUNDATIONAL role for many other things, like using concrete in a high rise tower that contains aggregate (gravel) that decomposes over a ten or twenty year period, something that slipped through the engineers materials testing program so that much construction and finishing work was built upon inadequate foundations that are unable to give long term support the developments which are dependent upon it.  REWARD and PUNISHMENT are designed to optimize the AUTHORING of actions and developments; for example to TRAIN children to employ BEST PRACTICES in their AUTHORING of actions and developments.

NATURE does NOT employ REWARD and PUNISHMENT because would assume that here was was a KNOWN ACTION AND RESULT that was to be OPTIMIZED.  But if the HONEY-BEE were to OPTIMIZE its job of collecting nectar, … it would find a way to prevent pollen from sticking to its legs and packing it around from flower to flower, an unnecessary overhead to the job of nectar collection. NATURE has this inter-relational complexity built into it, that makes systems ‘complex’ meaning that natural processes do not ‘decompose into separate, OPTIMIZABLE processes’ (the definition of NONLINEAR systems).

As Systems Scientist Martine Dodds Taljaard observes in her coauthored paper ‘The Name of the Devil is Suboptiization’;

Do we believe that we can DESIGN A BETTER HONEY BEE?  If we develop an optimized bee without hairy legs that bog it down by getting pollen stuck on them and having to expend energy that is non-contributory to the primary task of collecting nector.  Without getting pollen stuck on its legs, the bee could fly farther, faster, saving much energy and optimizing its task of nectar collection.

If we assume that SUBOPTIMIZATION “MAKES SENSE”, the world that we will set out to ENGINEER will be a SUBSTITUTE REALITY that WILL NOT MAKE SENSE in the “REAL WORLD” of endless relational interdependency; i.e. the NATURAL world of MITAKUYE OYASIN.

REWARD and PUNISHMENT presume that (a) WE ARE THE LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and results, and (b) WE HAVE EXPLICIT KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT THOSE ACTIONS AND RESULTS NEED TO BE (the assumption that supports SUBOPTIMIZATION). 

Such assumptions could only hold in a SUBSTITUTE REALITY based on the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR where, for example, we say that we are ENGINEERING the GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT of the NEW TOWN.   THIS IS A CASE of SUBOPTIMIZATION and it only transpires in the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR stimulated psychological imagination.  What is REALLY GOING ON  is going on in the REAL WORLD of our sensory experience of inclusion in the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM aka the Wave-field aka the Tao and it is beyond capture in direct and explicit language (i.e. it is beyond capture in NAMING and GRAMMAR based DOUBLE ERROR language terms).

So, REWARD and PUNISHMENT are “LOCKED IN BY HIGH SWITCHING COSTS”, chief among them being WESTERN CULTURE BELIEF in DOUBLE ERROR based concept of LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments.
