WHOOPS, there’s that AUTHOR word again; the FRAGMENTING WORD

PREFACE:

This extract is from a personal exchange in regard to philosophical ambiguity regarding FRAGMENTATION.  It explores the difference in approach of the philosophical investigations of Friedrich Nietzsche and David Bohm which are relevant to understanding persisting FRAGMENTATION within our WESTERN CULTURE social dynamic.

FINALLY, I get to see WHAT I HAVE BEEN MISSING in regard to Bohm’s and Nietzsche’s views on FRAGMENTATION!

Having read and re-read Bohm’s attack on FRAGMENTATION, I see, finally, that BOHM is NOT on the same tack as Nietzsche and that BOHM is doing a SHORT-CUT to the ‘right answer’.

But my sense is that ‘getting to the right answer’ IS ONLY HALF OF THE PROBLEM and the other half is GETTING PEOPLE TO BACK OUT OF THE MISTAKEN PATH THEY ARE DOGGEDLY PURSUING.

I am not DOUBTING that yourself and others are able to ‘go with Bohm and Krishnamurti’ to THE RIGHT ANSWER, but I I SERIOUSLY DOUBTING whether most people who are stuck with their ladder up against the wrong wall, who are energetically pursuing a climb to the SUMMIT of resolution, that is not ‘the SUMMIT’ but merely a FOOTHILL or SUBOPTIMIUM that is a BEACON to their ONWARD and UPWARD endeavors, but a BEACON that is exhausting their energies in a futile mission since it does not lead to the SUMMIT but is like the MAZE problem where the promising ‘trail’ which we believe is going to take us to the SUMMIT is a DEAD-END.

OK, TOO MANY METAPHORS?  This is not that easy to explain but NOTICE that Nietzsche speaks in terms of SMASHING the IDOLS where there is no such talk from Bohm.  I will re-copy Bohm’s succinct paragraph on FRAGMENTATION right here for easy reference, and if one reads it over, ten times or more, as I have done, it doesn’t SAY A WORD about the problem with LANGUAGE and REASON as being associated with FRAGMENTATION.  Bohm simply says that FRAGMENTATION is INFECTING our WESTERN CULTURE and that we need to FIX that problem because it’s driving us CRAZY.  LOOK FOR ANY MENTION OF LANGUAGE AS THE PROBLM IN BOHM’S FOLLOWING STATEMENT.

1 FRAGMENTATION AND WHOLENESS (from Wholeness and the Implicate Order by David Bohm)

The title of this chapter is ‘Fragmentation and wholeness’. It is especially important to consider this question today, for fragmentation is now very widespread, not only throughout society, but also in each individual; and this is leading to a kind of general confusion of the mind, which creates an endless series of problems and interferes with our clarity of perception so seriously as to prevent us from being able to solve most of them.

Thus art, science, technology, and human work in general, are divided up into specialities, each considered to be separate in essence from the others. Becoming dissatisfied with this state of affairs, men have set up further interdisciplinary subjects, which were intended to unite these specialities, but these new subjects have ultimately served mainly to add further separate fragments. Then, society as a whole has developed in such a way that it is broken up into separate nations and different religious, political, economic, racial groups, etc. Man’s natural environment has correspondingly been seen as an aggregate of separately existent parts, to be exploited by different groups of people. Similarly, each individual human being has been fragmented into a large number of separate and conflicting compartments, according to his different desires, aims, ambitions, loyalties, psychological characteristics, etc., to such an extent that it is generally accepted that some degree of neurosis is inevitable, while many individuals going beyond the ‘normal’ limits of fragmentation are classified as paranoid, schizoid, psychotic, etc

NO MENTION OF LANGUAGE!

So, while IT IS THE CASE that NIETZSCHE and BOHM are BOTH identifying the ISSUE as FRAGMENTATION, NIETZSCHE is launching a full frontal attack on LANGUAGE and in particular the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR built into our WESTERN languages that implies a LOCAL AUTHORING AGENCY to explain REALITY.

So, it is the case that Nietzsche is talking about SMASHING IDOLS while Bohm is not.  This is because Nietzsche sees ‘us’ (WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS) as being entrapped by our belief in IDOLS which arise from BELIEF IN LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments, coming from the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.   The ‘IDOLS’ are these SYNTHETIC LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and developments which are not like Nietzsche’s favourite personalities of Goethe and Napoleon whose influence was FIRSTLY by way of INSPIRATION (inspiration FILLS THE HEART while EGO SWELLS THE HEAD), rather than be EGO as in WE ARE THE SUPERIOR PEOPLE etc.

Let’s assume that CHOICELESS AWARENESS is the common goal.  The difference here is that Bohm and Krishnamurti are devising a recipe for taking people straight to the orientation of CHOICELESS AWARENESS while Nietzsche is addressing how to FIRST OF ALL LIBERATE OURSELVES FROM PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPTIVITY in the form of IDOL WORSHIP.

Now, out of the masses of people and my assessment of the WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT social collective, most people are LOCKED IN BY HIGH SWITCHING COSTS and they ARE COMMITTED TO THE PURSUIT OF RISING TO THE TOP without realizing that ‘what they see as the TOP’ is simply a SUBOPTIMIZATION, or a distracting FOOTHILL that, if they do reach it, will be inherently UNSATISFYING.  In other words, the EGO can’t take us to the same ‘heights’ as INSPIRATION can, which was demonstrated by the difference between Goethe and Hitler.

Ok, that’s where Nietzsche is coming from in his addressing of FRAGMENTING which he sees as arising from belief LOCAL AUTHORING which is surprising because few people in our WESTERN CULTURE “DO NOT BELIEVE” in “CAUSALITY”.  But Nietzsche mocks the concept of CAUSALITY, and recall that Nietzsche was influenced in his thinking of the physical world by the writings of Roger Boscovich. So, Nietzsche was ‘into’ Modern physics very early on through his reading of Boscovich (‘The Theory of Natural Philosophy’ (1758)) who has been described by modern physicists as being “200 years ahead of his time”.  Boscovich’s theory built on nonduality (matter-field equivalence).

So, NO WONDER THAT NIETZSCHE REJECTED “CAUSALITY” even though it remains in a FOUNDATIONAL ROLE in today’s MODERN thinking.  “LISTEN” TO THIS AFFIRMATION BY NIETZSCHE;  what he speaking about is the DOUBLE ERROR of (a) using NAMING to invent a LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF and conflating this with a second ERROR of GRAMMAR that imputes the power of AUTHORING (CAUSATION) to the NAMING-instantiated thing-in-itself;

“Being is thought into and insinuated into everything as ‘cause’; from the concept ‘ego,’ alone, can the concept ‘Being’ proceed– Nietzsche, ‘Twilight of the Idols’

Nietzsche is thus putting into question the most basic premises of WESTERN CULTURE LANGUAGE based constructions of reality.

THIS IS WHERE FRAGMENTATION BEGINS, in Nietzsche’s view.

BOHM is doing an END-RUN around FRAGMENTATION while Nietzsche is directing our attention to where FRAGMENTATION is coming into language (i.e. with CAUSATION aka LOCAL AUTHORING) and his SMASHING IDOLS programme is his approach to DEFRAGMENTATION.

Our WESTERN CULTURE PREDICAMENT, in my mind, is that we have LOCKED IN TO BELIEF IN LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments which we have built into our NAMING and GRAMMAR language based representation of reality, or rather of SUBSTITUTE REALITY.

DOES this mean that we MUST ADDRESS this PSYCHOLOGICAL ENTRAPMENT in order to get to CHOICELESS AWARENESS?

NO! But I would compare this to remanent magnetism in a metal which is extremely difficult to remove once is it established.  Some techniques include banging the metal with a hammer so that which each jolt, some of the polarized molecules will be liberated from the ‘remanent’ magnetic alighment.  Another approach is what we have devised to ‘degauss’ heads on a tape-recorder by remagnetizing them with a powerful oscillating (reversing from one polarity to the other) field and slowly diminishing the amplitude, and another is to heat the metal to a temperature where the molecules  get sufficiently excited that they let go of their remanent magnetization (the Curie point) and the memory of previously experienced magnetic field exposures dissipates.  A white man’s remanent prejudice against blacks may be overcome when a black man rescues his daughter from death by drowning.  The new emotional event heats things up and allows them to rearrange.

SO, YES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO AN ‘END RUN’ AROUND REMANENT PSYCHOLOGICAL FIXATION WITHOUT DIRECTLY DEALING WITH THE FIXATION; I.E. TO GO STRAIGHT TO CHOICELESS AWARENESS.

For this direct route, we can follow Bohm’s advice for DEFRAGMENTATION.

My sense is that some of us are more solidly captured by this ‘remanent magnetization’ than others in which case we need a dose of IDOL SMASHING which renders us sufficiently ‘malleable’ for the needed transformation.

NIETZSCHE’s approach to DEFRAGMENTION is focusing on the latter while Bohm’s approach to DEFRAGMENTATION orients to the direct express route to CHOICELESS AWARENESS because if that program is sufficiently captivating, it will over-ride the ‘remanent magnetism’ without having to expressly deal with it.

MY PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATIONS have oriented to the NIETZSCHEAN approach where we have to SMASH the IDOLS, meaning that we have to get rid of the LANGUAGE-and-GRAMMAR instilled belief in LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments, and our (we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS’) belief in LOCAL AUTHORING is tied up in our EGO and our acculturation from childhood has everyone, our parents and friends and school teachers, impressing on us that we the AUTHORS of our own FORTUNE and we GET what we DESERVE and all of that BULLSHIT which allows those of us who DO WELL to believe that this comes from our own ingenuity and hard work, and thus that ‘that other guy over there’ who is NOT DOING WELL AT ALL, is in that plight because ‘he does NOT HAVE THE RIGHT STUFF’ as we do.

As far as I can see, our WESTERN CULTURE CONTINUES to be HUNG UP on SOCIAL COLLECTIVE LEVEL SELF-DECEPTION which ‘hangs together ‘ on the basis of belief in LOCAL AUTHORING which is a phantom non-phenomenon coming from the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.  WE HAVE BUILT THIS SELF-DECEPTION INTO OUR DOUBLE ERROR BASED NAMING AND GRAMMAR BASED REPRESENTATIONS OF REALITY, as in ‘the TOWN is GROWING’ which CANCELS the understanding of reality as TOWNING in the transforming relational continuum.

WHY BOTHER TALKING ABOUT THESE PITFALLS?  WHY NOT GO STRAIGHT TO CHOICELESS AWARENESS.

My view is that while that more direct approach may be feasible for some of us, like you, whose email address incorporating ‘knowthyself’ put a label reminder on something that many of us overlook and are thus subject to being shaped by the cultural currents we happen to find ourselves being drawn into, WE MAY BE IN THAT ‘REMANENT MAGNETISM” PREDICAMENT where we need some ‘heating up’ before we can reorganize our self.  Like, HOW ABOUT OUR EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES?  Our WESTERN CULTURE SOCIETY is constantly trying to DEFINE US, through our jobs and our positions in the various hierarchies and as Ivan Illich shows us, what social media make us out to be, with caricatures such as BLACK or WHITE or MALE or FEMALE and all those other FRAGMENTATIONS that Bohm mentions in his short introduction to FRAGMENTATION and WHOLENESS.

MY PITCH IN SUPPORT OF NIETZSCHE’S OBSERVATIONS ON FRAGMENTATION WHICH DEPART FROM ‘BOHM’S

I can see the merit in heading directly for CHOICELESS AWARENESS and I think that Krishnamurti would be, ostensibly, a good GUIDE, and I can see why Bohm ‘teamed up with him’ when one thinks about this DIRECT PATH.

BUT I BELIEVE THAT MANY WILL BE “LEFT BEHIND” BECAUSE OF THIS REMANENT MAGNETISM LIKE EFFECT. These people are UNLIKELY to break out of their REMANENT MAGNETIC ALIGNMENT, without something to SMASH the FROZEN IMAGERY that is keeping them in their INAPPROPRIATE ORIENTATION.  Perhaps it is their admiration for the success of a EGO-driven (as contrasted with INSPIRATION-guided) “SUCCESSFUL PERSON” who has become an current IDOL that everyone is trying to MODEL THEMSELVES AFTER (which often starts from being a ‘fan’ of theirs).

Indigenous aboriginal cultures, with their POTLATCH ethic, understand the ‘success’ of the ‘individual’ as a MYTH because of the reality of ‘mitakuye oyasin’ wherein we are included in a relational continuum where abundance befalls some and scarcity befalls others, even though the latter work their guts out but still descend into impoverishment and are dismissed as being ‘of no consequence’.  Others, with similar profiles, may ‘be in the right place at the right time’ and rise to fame and fortune, and WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT, WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS PULL OUT OUR DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR BASED LOCAL AUTHORING MODEL, AND DECLARE THAT THAT PERSON WHO WAS IN THE RIGH PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME “IS THE LOCAL AUTHOR OF HIS OWN ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS”.

WHAT can we SAY about a FRAGMENTATION-believing society that REWARDS and PUNISHES on the basis of belief in DOUBLE ERROR based LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments?  We might say, as POGO did; ‘WE HAVE FOUND THE ENEMY AND IT IS US”.  But we are generally too busy striving the climb the ‘LADDER OF SUCCESS’, avoiding looking at those lying on the ground exhausted and impoverished in spite of giving it ‘their best go’.  Hope springs eternal in the human breast, … and in the human psyche, the abstract concept of FRAGMENTATION wherein the social collective buys into BELIEF in the DOUBLE ERROR based concept of LOCAL AUTHORING, continues on unabated as the ORGANIZING PRINCIPLE (if we can imagine FRAGMENTATION as an ORGANIZING PRINCIPLE).  But, that’s right, ORGANIZING into SPLINTER GROUPS is something we still think of as ORGANIZING and the UNSPOKEN ASSUMPTION there is the assumed REALITY of SUBOPTIMIZATION.  That is, by organizing in such a manner as to FRAGMENT into SUBGROUPS with particular focussed objectives, we are making some important assumptions about the nature of REALITY because FRAGMENTING would NOT make sense unless the FRAGMENTS TRULY WERE INDEPENDENT of one another.  IF THAT IS TRUE, then we can CELEBRATE the WINNERS of the FRAGMENTED COMPETITION because there is only UPSIDE to their SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENTS within THEIR FRAGMENT.

If that is FALSE; i.e. if the FRAGMENTS are INTERDEPENDENT, then we would be foolish to celebrate and honour the WINNING FRAGMENTS since they would simply be PULLING APART the interdependent relational matrix with their focus on SUBOPTIMIZATION of THEIR OWN FRAGMENT.  The latter reality of INTERDEPENDENCE is the finding of the Systems Sciences;

SUBOPTIMIZATION is another word for FRAGMENTATION.

HOW TO SUM UP THIS NARRATIVE SEEKING TO RECONCILE THE APPROACH OF BOHM AND NIETZSCHE TO FRAGMENTATION?

I can only share with you my own FEELINGS, as expressed with metaphors of remanent magnetism, that we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are LOCKED IN BY HIGH SWITCHING COSTS to thinking of reality in the DOUBLE ERROR terms of LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments.  This is what I am referring to as the SUBSTITUTE REALITY, but need to clarify this, as H. implies, since all Language-based representations of reality are SUBSTITUTE REALITIES, and distinguish this particular SUBSTITUTE REALITY as the FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY since the indigenenous aboriginal LANGAUGE-BASED SUBSTITUTE REALITY is a RELATIONAL SUBSTITUTE REALITY that is not FRAGMENTED.

I DO NOT OPPOSE THE APPROACH OF BOHM AND KRISHNAMURTI WHICH IS TO CULTIVATE THE ABILITY TO GO DIRECTLY TO CHOICELESS AWARENESS, … BUT I AM PROPOSING THAT MANY OF US WILL “NEVER GET THERE” BECAUSE OF “LOCK-IN-BY-HIGH-SWITCHING-COSTS’ OR IN OTHER WORDS, A ‘REMANENT MAGNETISM” LIKE ALIGNMENT BASED ON BELIEF LOCAL AUTHORING WHICH COMES TO US BY WAY OF THE DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR.

So long as we (many if not most of us WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS) are believing that we are on the RIGHT ROAD to generating a vibrant and successful social dynamic, WE ARE IN TROUBLE because the concept of a RIGHT ROAD leads to SUBOPTIMZATION which is FRAGMENTATION, and the concept of FRAGMENTATION is supported by the theory of OPTIMIZATION BY PARTS which comes from the DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE of the PARTS.   If the PARTS truly are INDEPENDENT, then SUBOPTIMATION would MAKE SENSE, but THE PARTS ARE INTERDEPENDENT and thus the very act of SUBOPTIMIZATION is, IN REALITY, FRAGMENTATION which, is inappropriate, conflict‐generating and dysfunctional in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …”

OK SAYS BOHM, let’s forget about that fragmentation mess and go directly to non-fragmentation by way of CHOICELESS AWARENESS.

WAIT A MINUTE, SAYS NIETZSCHE, WE’VE GOT A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE BUSY WORKING ON IMPROVEMENTS TO SOCIETY BUT WITH THEIR LADDERS UP THE WRONG WALL; I.E. THEY BELIEVE IN LOCAL AUTHORING AS THE WAY TO GO, AND LOCAL AUTHORING IS PSYCHOLOGICAL DELUSION, AND IT IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR TO FRAGMENTATION THROUGH DECLARATIONS OF INDEPENDENCE (based on the assumption of LOCAL AUTHORING POWER) as in NATIONALISM and CORPORATISM and RACISM.  IF WE DON’T “LIBERATE” OUR WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS FROM THIS MISCONCEPTION, WHICH MANY ARE ENERGETICALLY COMMITTED TO, we may get a few people to RE-ROUTE TO CHOICELESS AWARENESS, but we are going to leave many of our bothers and sisters locked-in to the pursuit of LOCAL SUBOPTIMIZATION by NATION, CORPORATION, RACE, FAMILY, GENDER etc.

THE POINT IS that we need to SMASH THE ICONS that are attracting people to suboptimization.  Many of these ICONS are arising on the wrong side of the dichotomy of INSPIRATION FILLS THE HEART while EGO SWELLS THE HEADS.  We have to SMASH THE FALSE IDOLS, FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING, which is like heating up iron to release the remanent magnetism, whereupon REORIENTATION becomes possible.  Without this preparatory step, the possibility of reorientation to CHOICELESS AWARENESS is not even on peoples’ radar screen because many feel that they are ‘on the right track’ and are approaching the SUMMIT of their longstanding efforts at IMPROVING their and their community’s WELL-BEING.

This IMPROVEMENT is HIGHLY DECEPTIVE and that is the NATURE OF SUBOPTIMIZATION, because, for example, the UNITED STATES CITIZENS believe in the TRICKLE DOWN TO THE REST OF THE WORLD benefits of improvements to the health and welfare of THEIR OWN NATION, which amounts to a belief in SUBOPTIMIZATION. But SUBOPTIMZATION IS A MIRAGE, and such NATIONALIST EGO-PRIDE is, IN EFFECT, FRAGMENTATION which, is inappropriate, conflict‐generating and dysfunctional in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …”

Since the so-called INDEPENDENCE of SELF-DECLARED-AS-INDEPENDENT “NATIONS” is a PSYCHO-TRIP that is unsupported by sense-experience reality; i.e. in the REAL WORLD characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …” we are playing a house-of-cards game here with NATION-level FRAGMENTATION.

IN CONCLUSION, I AM FULLY SUPPORTIVE OF BOHM AND KRISHNAMURTI’S APPROACH OF CULTIVATING A DIRECT ‘ASCENT’ TO CHOICELESS AWARENESS, BUT AS WITH THE BODHISATTVA ETHIC OF ‘BEING THAT LAST ONE TO NIRVANA’ BECAUSE OF THE NEED TO STICK AROUND AND HELP OTHERS TO GET THERE, I THINK NIETZSCHE’S APPROACH OF IDOL-SMASHING (I.E. REJECTION OF THE WESTERN PSYCHE-ENTRENCHED CONCEPT OF LOCAL AUTHORING) IS VALID AND NEEDED.

THIS IS “NOT” AN ‘EITHER/OR’ CHOICE, BUT RATHER A “BOTH/AND” CHOICE SO I ACCEPT AND RESPECT THE DIRECT ASCENT OPTION AND FEEL THAT IT MAY BE THE RIGHT OPTION FOR CERTAIN OF US, BUT I FEEL THAT THERE IS A STRONG NEED IN MANY OF US, FOR THE EQUIVALENT OF A PRELIMINARY REMANENT MAGNETISM REMOVAL PROGRAM AKA IDOL-SMASHING PROGRAM, which is not easy in our society because there are major BANDWAGON efforts underway that can SHOW SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS AND LARGE BENEFITS with PROSPECTS of MORE OF THE SAME if we KEEP GROUPING TOGETHER AND WORKING TOGETHER ON SUCH SUMMIT CLIMBS where we can demonstrate LEADERSHIP and SUCCESS; e.g. just look at the LEADERSHIP shown by the UNITED STATES and the GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS that IT HAS AUTHORED.

WHOOPS, there’s that AUTHOR word again; i.e. the AUTHOR WORD is a FRAGMENTING WORD that..  “is inappropriate, conflict‐generating and dysfunctional in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …”

The DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR allows us to establish NEW NATIONS wherever and whenever we want and we can write up their HISTORIES as we choose, making them glorious or defamatory, depending on who does the writing because we have all the scope we need when we invent a LOCAL SELF-AUTHORING NATION and fit it into a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …”

This only has ‘meaning’ within a FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY based on the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.  Shall we have a competition where a RUSSIAN historian writes the history of he UNITED STATES and an AMERICAN historian writes the history of RUSSIA, both having the artistic licence to OVER-RIDE the sense experience reality of inclusion in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence …”?

OK, TIME TO CLOSE THIS NOTE DOWN.  My point is that we have more than one path to CHOICELESS AWARENESS and the NIETSCHEAN PATH seeks to liberate us from pursuing climbs to FALSE SUMMITS based on false belief in LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and developments which has ‘us’ believing that we can AUTHOR OUR WAY OUT OF ANY TROUBLESOME ISSUE, a ONE-SIDED MALE-ASSERTIVE FRAGMENTING SUBSTITUTE REALITY. “AUTHORS” ARE “FALSE IDOLS” that do not exist in the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM, but right now, WESTERN CULTURE is HEAVILY INVESTED in AUTHORS as SAVIOURS that are going to allow us to use MALE ASSERTING POWERS to PUSH ON THROUGH and RISE ABOVE the CHALLENGES WE FACE.

For those of us living within a WESTERN CULTURE social collective, the teaching from infancy has fully conditioned us to accepting THE NAME GAME where the combination of NAMING and GRAMMAR (the ‘double error’ as Nietzsche has aptly labelled it).  Those of us living in a WESERN CULTURE socio-linguistically constructed, FRAGMENTATION-based SUBSTITUTE REALITY, if we want to stay in touch with REALITY, must LET GO of all the LANGUAGE based representations of reality and RE-GROUND ourselves in CHOICELESS AWARENESS, or in other words we must TAP INTO our sense-experience of inclusion in the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM which is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (relational) as is the nature of the WAVE-FIELD aka ‘the Tao’.

When a group of people carrying weapons informs those of us (indigenous aboriginals) that henceforth we must ‘play the game’ of referring to the land as ‘The United States of America’, THEY ARE PLAYING A GAME.  THEY ARE PLAYING AT NOT PLAYING A GAME.  IF WE SHOW THEM WE SEE THEY ARE, WE SHALL BREAK THE RULES AND THEY WILL PUNISH US.  WE MUST PLAY THEIR GAME OF NOT SEEING WE SEE THE GAME.

If we “LET GO” (of our intellectual language-based contriving) and RE-GROUND in our SENSE-EXPERIENCE of pure CHOICELESS AWARENESS, the intellectual abstract images of NAMING-instantiated LOCAL THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES, notionally with THEIR OWN POWERS OF AUTHORING actions and developments, VAPORIZES, and we are once again in touch with our sense-experience with its CHOICELESS AWARENESS of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum.

WHAT IS THAT GAME?

THAT GAME IS THE GAME OF NAME-BASED FRAGMENTATION!

WHERE IS THE GAME OF NAME-BASED FRAGMENTATION TAKING US?

As David Bohm points out, language-based FRAGMENTATION of WHAT’S OUT THERE, is FRAGMENTING WHAT’S “IN HERE”, as Bohm explains in ‘Wholeness and the Implicate Order’, where he points to where our WESTERN CULTURE society has been going;

“  … society as a whole has developed in such a way that it is broken up into separate nations and different religious, political, economic, racial groups, etc. Man’s natural environment has correspondingly been seen as an aggregate of separately existent parts, to be exploited by different groups of people. Similarly, each individual human being has been fragmented into a large number of separate and conflicting compartments, according to his different desires, aims, ambitions, loyalties, psychological characteristics, etc., to such an extent that it is generally accepted that some degree of neurosis is inevitable, while many individuals going beyond the ‘normal’ limits of fragmentation are classified as paranoid, schizoid, psychotic, etc

As with the sense-experience conditioned behaviour of natural relational forms in general, as have NOT been subjected to intellectual REDUCTION into abstract linguistically FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY, there is basic GROUNDING of REALITY in sense-experience; i.e. in CHOICELESS AWARENESS of inclusion in the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM.

The SENSE-EXPERIENCE of inclusion in a transforming relational continuum is beyond capture in language because the continuum IS A CONTINUUM and is thus INEFFABLE because it is a relational, NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT, and like WAVE-FIELDS, has no LOCAL BEGINNING and LOCAL ENDING which is no problem for CHOICELESS AWARENESS, where there is no “LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT”.   FRAGMENTATION is ONE WAY of rendering the INEFFABLE CHOICELESS AWARENESS of sense-experience of inclusion in the transgforming relational continuum EFFABLE, but at the cost of FRAGMENTATION.  FRAGMENTATION-based LANGUAGE has been the route taken by WESTERN CULTURE, while indigenous aboriginal cultures have developed LANGUAGE ARCHITECTURE which does not involve FRAGMENTING into the LOCAL and EXPLICIT as in WESTERN CULTUER reductions of sense experience to spoken words; For example;

WESTERN LANGUAGE: THE TOWN IS GROWING (FRAGMENTATION into LOCAL and EXPLICIT INTELLECTUAL ABSTRACTIONS)

INDIGENOUS ABORIGINAL LANGUAGE: THERE IS TOWNING IN THE TRANSFORMING (NON-FRAGMENTED, retaining the natural essence which is NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT [relational] natural essence of CHOICELESS AWARENESS aka sense-experience reality.

WESTERN CULTUER EGO ANCHORS OUR DEPENDENCY ON FRAGMENTATION

FRAGMENTATION provides the foundation for the abstract WESTERN CULTURE BELIEF in LOCAL AUTHORING.  One NAMING liberates the notional LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF and GRAMMAR is employed to impute to that LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF, … notionally, … ‘ITS’ own powers of AUTHORING actions and developments, we have FRAGMENTATION where  WE NOW MOVE (our INTELLECTION MOVES US) into a FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY where ‘WE’ and ‘OTHER NAMING-INSTANTIATED-NOTIONAL-THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES’ use GRAMMAR to notionally EQUIP OURSELVES with OUR OWN POWER OF AUTHORING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS.

THIS IS WHERE FRAGMENTATION COMES FROM AND IT iS HELD IN PLACE BY “EGO” AND THIS IS A CRAZY-MAKER, which is what Bohm is talking about in his discussion of FRAGMENTATION, which is repeated here for the reader’s convenience.

1 FRAGMENTATION AND WHOLENESS (from Wholeness and the Implicate Order by David Bohm)

The title of this chapter is ‘Fragmentation and wholeness’. It is especially important to consider this question today, for fragmentation is now very widespread, not only throughout society, but also in each individual; and this is leading to a kind of general confusion of the mind, which creates an endless series of problems and interferes with our clarity of perception so seriously as to prevent us from being able to solve most of them.

Thus art, science, technology, and human work in general, are divided up into specialities, each considered to be separate in essence from the others. Becoming dissatisfied with this state of affairs, men have set up further interdisciplinary subjects, which were intended to unite these specialities, but these new subjects have ultimately served mainly to add further separate fragments. Then, society as a whole has developed in such a way that it is broken up into separate nations and different religious, political, economic, racial groups, etc. Man’s natural environment has correspondingly been seen as an aggregate of separately existent parts, to be exploited by different groups of people. Where does this FRAGMENTATION begin?  It beings with the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR as Nietzsche has pointed out, and which the insightful psychiatric researches of Ronald D. Laing exposed as ‘GAME of PRETEND’ that has become OBLIGATORY in WESTERN CULTURE (paraphrased below to shift the AUTHOR from ‘THEY’ to ‘WE’;

—We are playing a game.  We are playing at not playing a game.  If we show one another that we see we are, we shall break the rules and we will have to punish ourselves.  We must play our game, of not seeing we see the game.

Once those who are in a LOCAL position of power use NAMING to back up an abstract DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE which could be at a ‘christening” of a HUMAN or of a NATION, to make this “TAKE” we must impose PUNISHMENT for NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE NAME-GAME.

Of course, all of NATURE is not going to ‘come along with’ this PUNISHMENT-based FRAGMENTATION, so that it remains an INTELLECTUAL MIND GAME sustained the THREAT OF VIOLENCE.  If we can muster up a powerful army to support and sustain by threat of punishment of  those who RESIST playing along with our INTELLECTUAL FRAGMENTATION GAMES, we can conjure up HERD BEHAVIOUR by condition the ABSTRACT INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY of the social collective and FORCING the INTELLECT into a position of UNNATURAL PRIMACY over sense-experience informed INTUITION.

Thus the INTELLECTUAL ABSTRACTION contrived FRAGMENTATION is DRIVEN INTO THE PSYCHE through the WEAK LINK of RATIONAL INTELLECTION, in spite of the objections of INTUITIVE INTELLECTION which ‘does not accept the notion of a FRAGMENTED REALITY determined by RATIONAL DECLARATIONS OF INDEPENDENCE through the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR that notionally endows NAMING-instantiated THINGS-IN-THEMSELVES. (abstractions) with notional GRAMMAR-given powers of LOCAL AUTHORING of actions and develoments.

WELCOME TO WESTERN CULTURE LA-LA-LAND, where LOCAL AUTHORING becomes the new FRAGMENTING SUBSTITUTE REALITY and BEFORE YOU OBJECT, remember, that you live in a intellectually prescribed reality wherein to expose LOCAL AUTHORING as fallacy amounts to stripping off the Emperor’s new clothes;

These FRAGMENTS that we call NATIONS, as in Bohm’s discussion of FRAGMENTATION is a GAME-PLAY that has become widely popular in our WESTERN CULTURE social collective in spite of the indigenous aboriginal people’s justified mocking of such FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY CONSTRUCTIONS which are being pushed forth for use as the OPERATIVE REALITY in spite of their glaring CONFLICT with our sense-experience reality of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum aka the Wave-field aka ‘the Tao’.

YES, we can fall back on our sense-experience of CHOICELESS AWARENESS of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum, that doesn’t remove the GUN TO OUR HEAD that demands our obedient compliance in our actions and developments with the WESTERN CULTURE FRAGMENTATION GAME-PLAYING.

This WESTERN CULTURE FRAGMENTATION GAME-PLAY not only insists on going along with the notion of a NAME-based NATION as being an independent FRAGMENT, but also with the notion of a NAME-based HUMAN as being an INDEPENDENT FRAGMENT.

That’s too much abstraction for the indigenous aboriginal people with their understanding that ‘everything is related’ (MITAKUYE OYASIN) which has been corroborated by MODERN PHYSICS, such corroboration rendering our WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT ‘INDEPENDENT FRAGMENT BASED ‘SUBSTITUTE REALITY’ as an EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES FIASCO.

TIME FOR SMASHING THE FALSE IDOLS of ‘the INDEPENDENT NATION STATE’ and the ‘INDEPENDENT HUMAN BEING” which lie at the base of our FRAGMENTED  SUBSTITUTE REALITY.

IF the GROWTH of INDUSTRIALIZED AREAS deserves our SUPPORT, what about the conjugate shrinkage of Wilderness area?  Is it REALISTIC to conceive of INDUSTRY as a separate FRAGMENT and to PROMOTE THE GROWTH OF INDUSTRY as if “INDUSTRY” were a separate FRAGMENT which could “GROW”?  IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A PARTICULAR NATION’S INDUSTRY “TO GROW”?   That would depend on FRAGMENTATION being REAL as in “SENSE-EXPERIENCE REAL”, and not just in DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY “REAL”.  

As MARTINE is saying, the world of our sense experience of inclusion therein, …  is a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence. 

What MARTINE IS ‘REALLY SAYING” IS;

EXCEPT THAT IT IS TIME TO ‘BLOW THE WHISTLE’ ON THE NON-REALITY OF FRAGMENTATION.

TO BE CLEAR, ‘FRAGMENTATION’ IS ‘REAL’ WITHIN THE FRAGMENTED SUBSTITTUE REALITY WE HAVE CONSTRUCTED WITH THE LANGUAGE BASED DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR AND ITS IMPUTING OF LOCAL AUTHORING OF ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS, … HOWEVER, THAT FRAGEMENTATION-BASED SUBSTITUTE REALIY IS “NOT REAL”.

‘CHOICELESS AWARENESS’ is a natural sense-experience capability that STOPS SHORT of intellectual reductions into WESTERN CULTURE FRAGMENTED SUBSTITUTE REALITY CONSTRUCTIONS.

HOWEVER, the great benefit of LANGUAGE is that it gives the capability of SHARING (representations of) SENSE EXPERIENCE and thus, NOT ONLY SHARING COMMON EXPERIENCES but sharing experiences that are UNCOMMON and that we, as individuals may never experience, such as MALES using language to share experiences with FEMALES (and vice versa) and BLACKS using language to share experiences with WHITES (and vice versa).

Our LANGUAGE-based (knowledge-based) CONCEPTUALIZNG of REALITY is thus CANTILEVERED well beyond the limits of our personal experience of IN SITU EXPERIENCING OF CHOICELESS AWARENESS. Nevertheless, there is a REALITY-GROUNDING property in CHOICELESS AWARENESS SENSE-EXPERIENCE that we can employ to help us validate or invalidate language-based representation of reality, and put the stamp of TRUTH-LIKELIHOOD or INLIKELIHOOD ON.   To a large extent, this EXPERIENCE-based VALIDATION of REALITY is BYPASSED by INTELLECTUAL FRAGMENTATION based SUBSTITUTE REALITY constructions wherein we use our RATIONAL INTELLECTION to CONSTRUCT REPRESENTATIONS that recall SENSE-EXPERIENCE REALITY.

This is where the CANTILEVERING comes in, on the RATIONAL INTELLECTUAL SIDE where we can ADD KNOWLEDGE of others’ sense-experience where KNOWLEDGE conveyed by LANGUAGE is an ABSTRACTION based REDUCTION of such sense-experience. If we could take WHITE OUT that portion our understanding of reality, that was NOT COMING FROM CHOICELESS AWARENESS through sense-experience, our world-view would be DECIMATED but what would remain would be the true knowledge or GNOSIS that has been spoken of in terms of our ‘returning as babes’ in Gnostic writings;

“Again when Jesus saw infants being nursed by their mothers he said, “These infants being suckled are like those entering the Kingdom.” And the disciples asked, “Shall we, then, as little children, enter the Kingdom?” He answered them, “When you make two one, and when you make the inside the outside and the outside the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and female one and the same…then you will enter (the Kingdom).” — The Gnostic gospel of Thomas.

One might think of this in terms of WHITING OUT the LANGUAGE-CANTILEVERED extensions to understanding REALITY, that extend beyond our core of sense-experience reality which is primary when we are infants and one might say that there remains in us, as a kind of inner core, our infant like innocence of ‘choiceless awareness’, which has been OVERTAKEN in our ACCULTURATION by LANGUAGE-based CANTILEVERING so that we are now employing a SUBSTITUTE REALITY based on a polyglot of RATIONAL-INTELLECTUAL EXTENSIONS.

In indigenous aboriginal cultures, this SUBSTITTUTE REALITY is constituted by RELATIONS (mitakuye oyasin) even though CANTILEVERED by language-based sharing of INTELLECTUAL REDUCTIONS of sense-experience; i.e. we can’t SHARE sense-experience, but we CAN SHARE intellectual reductions of our IMPRESSIONS of SENSE-EXPERIENCE and we can do that IN TWO WAYS, by sharing a matrix of relations that aims at capturing that sense experience (there is TOWNING in the TRANSFORMING LANDSCAPE)  AND/OR by sharing a FRAGMENTATION based RE-PRESENTATION that aims at capturing our sense-experience (the TOWN is GROWING in size and population and ITS PRODUCING of goods and services).

NOTA BENE!  While both of these language-based representation techniques CANTILEVER knowledge of sense-experience beyond the limits of our own personal sense-experience, only the WESTERN CULTURE languages FRAGMENT reality in their mode of LINGUISTIC REPRESENTATION, and it is this FRAGMENTATION that opens the door to imputing LOCAL AUTHORING by way of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.  To say ‘the TOWN IS GROWING’ is to FRAGMENT reality such that LOCAL AUTHORING becomes part of the REALITY CONSTRUCTION.  It is this LOCAL AUTHORING ABSTRACTION this is the source of the WESTERN CULTURE SOCIAL HABIT OF FRAGMENTATION that Bohm speaks to as mentioned and repeated here for reading flow convenience;

What this boils down to is that our WESTERN CULTURE, through our language practice, promotes the ABSTRACT BELIEF IN LOCAL AUTHORING.  Our language practice FORCES US (through social pressures) to PLAY THE GAME of imputing LOCAL AUTHORING POWERS to NAMING-instantiated (notional) LOCAL THINGS-THEMSELVES making them out jumpstart AUTHORS of actions and developmens.

LOCAL AUTHORING gives rise to EGO and this is perhaps the ANCHOR that “locks us in’ to this belief practice by HIGH SWITCHING COSTS’ (once we have EGO inflation in the seat of power, we have the Emperor’s new Clothes problem wherein ordinary people find that their easiest path in life is to play along with the celebrating of the outstanding LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and developments even though there are no such things as LOCAL AUTHORS of actions and developments.   One of the most prominent examples of the Emperor’s New Clothes is the popular WESTERN CULTURE BELIEF in the INDEPENDENCE of the NATION.

LOCAL AUTHORING claimed by NATIONS does not exist as systems sciences note,  “… in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence.

But so far in the unfolding history of WESTERN CULTURE, since the ‘gagging’ of the indigenous aboriginal culture, the WESTERN CULTURE fostered FRAGMENTATION into a SUBSTITUTE MULTI-NATIONAL PSEUDO-REALITY is a GAME that we continue to play while pretending we are not seeing we see the game.  It is no small feat for the leaders of INDEPENDENT NATIONS to continue to insist on their own INDEPENDENCE while sense experience reality is informing us all that THE REALITY IS THAT WE LIVE “… in a world characterized by global interconnectedness and mutual interdependence. and the only thing that holds us captive in our FRAGMENTED REALITY is our EGO supported belief in LOCAL AUTHORING.
