We Western Culture Adherents like to simplify reality so as to facilitate verbal sharing of at least some reduced facsimile of the reality of sensory experience which is, itself, INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, as is the basic nature of the Wave-field in which we are included.

Reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT is the job of language and grammar.

The great division between the cultures of the EAST and WEST lies in the fact that while the EAST “remembers” that the reduced-to-language REPRESENTATION of reality is NOT the reality, the WEST “forgets” and thus behaves  as if the intellectual-conceptual representation of reality made possible by the reduction techniques built into language and grammar (the ‘DOUBLE ERROR’ as Nietzsche terms it)    was the ‘operative reality’.   Once we reduce the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT Wave-field reality of our actual sensory experience, to EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT materialist reality of our intellectual discourse, our WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT habit is to treat this reduction as if it were the ‘operative reality’.   Once we have this surrogate intellectual pseudo-reality in hand, our habit is to simply DISCARD the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT sensory-experience reality.

In what manner, then, does the ‘new-and-reduced-to-effable pseudo-reality’ of the WEST impact our WESTERN CULTURE social dynamic from the EASTERN social dynamic where THE ACTUAL INEFFABLE reality of our sensory experience as accepted?

Since our sensory reality of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT (the nature of inclusion in the Wave-field aka the Tao), we can’t articulate it in direct and explicit terms (everything is in flux).  So language based representations, whether of the WEST or EAST, since the basic symbols and their constructed edifices ‘hang in the air’ or ‘stick to the page’ and persist, these language based constructions can only be used to INFER the actual fluid reality of our sensory experience.  That is why modern physics researchers Geoffrey Chew and John Wheeler speak of the need to use a tool of INFERENCE such as what they term ‘The surprise version of the game of Twenty Questions’.   This approach avoids placing any fullblown dependence on the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT so that the take-away meaning can be the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT.

The “Surprise version of the game of Twenty-Questions” serves as a means of construction a matrix of relations that implies a fluid form.  As Shroedinger points out in ‘What is Life?’, “Gaurisankar and Mt Everest turned out to be the same peak seen from different valleys.”  Since the earth is continually transforming, multiple observations which are not constrained by the invoking of a single NAME imposing the notion of something LOCAL and EXPLICIT, keeps the door open to understanding what is being observed in a fluid sense.   For example, a ‘sand dune’ is a relational form within a transforming relational system which, as Zen practitioners would suggest, is better identified or labelled as DUNING because if we use language that FIXES (localizes and explicitizes) its identity by NAMING it; e.g. DUNE 351 and then having to say, …DUNE 351 is shrinking in size and spreading out and moving southward, this language-and-grammar overhead is what the Presocratics called ‘the burden of concreteness’.  The greater reality is RESONANCE (aka Wave-field).

So, we have this REAL REALITY of relational resonance based TRANSFORMATION and then we have the problem of articulation of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT.  This calls for a solution that will deliver REPRESENTATION in terms that are EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT, which is what language can give us.   But, as Kepler warned;

“…  it frequently happens that the things which have to be chosen are not those which are most true but those which are most easy. And by that division in things which makes different people form different judgements, it so happens that certain people are in error contrary to their own opinion.”

In other words, once we start using abstract conceptual reduction of fluid reality which is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT (that’s what ‘flow’is) in the abstracted and reduced terms of the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT, … which, by the way, is what makes it possible for us to TALK about (to use inference based language) or EFFABLE-ize the INEFFABLE, … the pitfall that we may fall into opens up before us.  That is, we may get so comfortable in moving our intellectual conceptualizations into the language-based pseudo-reality that is EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT that we GET STUCK IN AN ABSTRACT INTELLECTUAL REALITY, so that we come to regard it as THE OPERATIVE REALITY.

This is NOT TO SAY that there isn’t UTILITY in using this reduced to-EFFABLE pseudo-reality.  I don’t have to constrain my LANGUAGE so that it remains TRUE to the understanding that DUNING is a NONLOCAL resonance phenomenon but can benefit from exploiting the utility of saying to you on a windy day; ‘A sand-dune is about to bury your truck!’.  The greater reality of our being included in a transforming relational continuum nevertheless remains the primary reality while the abstraction of DUNES that MOVE is something lesser, a reductive abstraction wherein we use language and grammar to EFFABLE-ize our INEFFABLE inclusion in TRANSFORMATION.

Consider, however, what is behind the phrase “EAST is EAST and WEST is WEST and never the twain shall meet”; i.e. we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS have fallen into the habit of using language based reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT …. to RECONSTRUCT REALITY IN ABSTRACT INTELLECTUAL TERMS …. NOT, as in the EAST, as a ‘BOOTSTRAPPING TOOL’ or Wittgenstein ladder of INFERENCE that points to the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, but, instead, as an OUT-AND-OUT SUBSTITUTE (pseudo) REALITY.  GOODBYE REALITY, HELLO EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT PSEUDO-REALITY!

What comes of this is WESTERN CULTURE EGO.  That is, it comes from regarding the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT as ‘real’, whereupon we can model ourselves using the DOUBLE ERROR.

WESTERN CULTURE EGO derives from the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR where we use NAMING to impute LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF-EXISTENCE and conflate this with GRAMMAR to impute the power of SOURCING actions and developments to the NAMING-instantiated (notional) thing-in-itself.

Instead of TRANSFORMATION, which is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, we can substitute the abstract BINARY LOGICAL duo of PRODUCTION and CONSUMPTION wherein things are extruded and subducted like volcanic extrusions and subduction zone intrusions.  NO MORE TRANSFORMATION, only extrusion and subduction and/or production and consumption.

WHY?

NOT BECAUSE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION ARE “MORE REAL” THAN “TRANSFORMATION” BUT BECAUSE;

 “…  it frequently happens that the things which have to be chosen are not those which are most true but those which are most easy. And by that division in things which makes different people form different judgements, it so happens that certain people are in error contrary to their own opinion.”

The fact is, that TRANSFORMATION is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, … yet it is the ‘real reality’ of our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum.

Hey, no harm done, … all we have to do is remember that the world we construct using the reduction of the LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT is just an abstract reduction tool that delivers a crude ‘go-by’ for the INEFFABLE reality that allows us to work with an EFFABLE-pseudo-reality.  If we don’t forget that our reductive representation of reality is just a mock-up the opens the door to effable-izing and sharing a crude reduction of the INEFFABLE, … then we can be sure not to treat the reduction as ‘reality’ but to remember that it is only an EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT INFERENCE of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT  real reality.

But WE, meaning WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS, DO FORGET, … and that is what distinguishes our WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT quote/unquote “explicit reality” constructions from the ineffable-because-relational modern physics reality and from the ineffable relational reality of indigenous aboriginals, Taoists/Buddhists and Advaita Vedanat adherents.

As Nietzsche has pointed out, one of the most striking of the DOUBLE ERROR ramifications impacting WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENCE and from there, the world, is EGO which comes from NAMING and GRAMMAR that imputes the POWER OF LOCAL SOURCING to a NAMING-instantiated (notional) LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF, whether a human, nation, corporation, or any other relational flow forms that language and grammar reduces to a local thing-in-itself with its own (notional) powers of sourcing actions and developments.  Bacteria and Viruses are other ‘place-holders’ for DOUBLE ERROR based powers of local sourcing, … which reduce TRANSFORMATION to abstract terms of PRODUCTION and CONSUMPTION or in other words, BIRTH and DEATH, binary logic based abstraction that keeps afloat the abstract concept of the NAMING-instantiated LOCAL thing-in-itself, whether an imagined ‘local nation’ or an imagined ‘local sand dune.

Don’t forget; in reducing the relational formings of transformation to notional LOCAL things-in-themselves with their own GRAMMAR given powers of sourcing actions and developments, WE ARE CONCOCTING an EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT language and grammar rendering of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-INEFFABLE.  NOW WE’RE TALKING whereas, without this invention of a technique for re-rendering the INEFFABLE in EFFABLE terms, we remain stuck in silence.  As Wittgenstein captured this side-stepping of our sharing being blocked by the ineffable nature of the Wave-field reality;

6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.)

SUMMARY :

WARNING ! ACHTUNG ! The reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT, by way of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR, … IS NOT WORTHY of serving as  REPLACEMENT/SURROGATE REALITY, … it is only worthy of being used as a Wittgenstein ladder or BOOTSTRAP DEVICE which ‘works’ by using the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT concepts of PRODUCTION and CONSUMPTION to infer the ‘real reality’ of TRANSFORMATION which is meanwhile INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT.

No, there are no ‘sand dunes’, but here is ‘resonance’ which gathers and scatters and is visually perceived as waves which gather sand within them, a resonance phenomenon that is decidedly NONLOCAL and which owes itself to solar irradiance, gravity and the fullblown all-including Wave-field.

And hey, there is no problem, and it is in fact of great benefit, to use NAMING and GRAMMAR within the DOUBLE ERROR to reduce the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT to something EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT, the mistake is to REGARD the reduction as the new OPERATIVE REALITY.  It is a mistake because “the reduction is not the reality”, “the map of reality is not the reality”.

Our “sensory experience awareness” doesn’t need to be reduced by language to thought.  The utility of sharing some EFFABLE semblance of our INEFFABLE sensory experience encourages us to reduce our sensory experience awareness to thought and language.  But thought and language are like a reduction of fluid sensory experience awareness to the ‘frozen faces’ of reality that recall our mother’s warning not to ‘make a face’ lest we become permanently stuck with it.  Thought precipitated by language has this kind of lingering rigid presence that can interfere with our free-wheeling sensory experiencing of the NOW.

As Rumi says;

“Out beyond the ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing there is a field.  I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.  Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other’ doesn’t make any sense. The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.  People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch.  The door is round and open.  Don’t go back to sleep. — Rumi

 

Thought and language may serve as a map, but that map is not to be confused for the territory for we are more susceptible to becoming lost in the map than becoming lost in the territory.
