INTRODUCTION:

WESTERN CULTURE: DEFINED BY OUR DENIAL of NONLOCALITY

As Nietzsche points out, we inject into the psyche, the concept of LOCAL SOURCING by way of a DOUBLE ERROR of language and grammar.,

“In its origin language belongs in the age of the most rudimentary form of psychology. We enter a realm of crude fetishism when we summon before consciousness the basic presuppositions of the metaphysics of language, in plain talk, the presuppositions of reason. Everywhere it sees a doer and doing; it believes in will as the cause; it believes in the ego, in the ego as being, in the ego as substance, and it projects this faith in the ego-substance upon all things–only thereby does it first create the concept of “thing.” Everywhere “being” is projected by thought, pushed underneath, as the cause; the concept of being follows, and is a derivative of, the concept of ego. In the beginning there is that great calamity of an error that the will is something which is effective, that will is a capacity. Today we know that it is only a word.” – Nietzsche, Chapter 5 (Reason in Philosophy) of Twilight of the Idols.

The DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR is used to INVENT the concept of LOCAL BEING and notionally infuse within this invented LOCAL BEING, LOCAL SOURCING POWER, so as to comprise a system of communication that can OVER-RIDE the reality of NONLOCALITY.

For those cultures wherein language is acknowledged to be a poetic device, limited to INFERENCE that is useful for IMPLYING the NONLOCAL reality that lies beyond its EXPLICIT reach, we could keep our sanity, but our WESTERN CULTURE approach has been to abandon the use of the EXPLICIT-because-LOCAL in its role of INFERENCE of the IMPLICIT-because-NONLOCAL, and simply deploy the EXPLICIT as the basis for an OPERATIVE REALITY, ignoring and substituting the EXPLICIT and LOCAL for the IMPLICIT and NONLOCAL.  For example, it is one thing to invent ‘the DUNE’ for the manifesting of resonance based DUNING since resonance is NONLOCAL and we would be talking forever to capture the full story of the transforming relational continuum that such resonance belongs to, … but it is quite another thing to use ‘the DUNE’ as a reality substitute and, having thus ‘broken the NONLOCAL’ down into local pieces, reconstitute the dynamics of reality with GRAMMAR so that within a NEW, ABSTRACT (synthetic) pseudo-REALITY, we invent GRAMMAR to re-animate the pieces we have linguistically (and psychologically, by the impression that language induces in the psyche) BROKEN OUT.

Thus ‘the DUNE’ becomes a manageable, in the sense of EFFABLE, ‘piece’ of the INEFFABLE ‘DUNING’ that we can manipulate with GRAMMAR, imputing to it, its own LOCAL action and development SOURCING power.; e.g. “the DUNE is growing higher and longer and is shifting across the desert floor.   Voila, the reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL ‘DUNING’ to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL ‘DUNE’.

Nietzsche spends more time in exposing this DOUBLE ERROR than in addressing the problematic ramifications of this synthetic reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL, … than BOHM, since BOHM is in the business of formulating mathematical models which hope to capture ‘reality’ in an ‘unreduced’ manner, if there is a mathematical language that would allow it.  It would have to be a mathematical language that was capable of handling both relativity physics and quantum physics.

In terms of a language that could deal with REALITY AS FLOW, Bohm had proposed (but not developed) ‘RHEOMODE’  but discovered that such a language had already been invented and was in use by indigenous aboriginals (e.g. Algonquin).  But one might say that a language is not ‘the whole story’ because the indigenous aboriginal languages have a design that facilitates the bringing into connective confluence, a multiplicity of perspectives wherein the ‘interference pattern’ constituting the OMNI-PERSPECTIVAL view which is no longer a subject-object splitting ‘view out there’ but is a holographic UNDERSTANDING in which one is included.

The reductive tool of language and grammar, however useful, in its raw state, for ‘sharing’ reasoned perspectives on ‘reality’ is innately ambiguous and incomplete;

“La raison du plus fort est toujours la meilleure’ – Lafontaine.

The individual reason-based perspective is innately incomplete (Goedel’s Theorem of Incompleteness).  This is the shortfall in visual perspectives such as Jean Valjean ‘stealing a loaf of bread’.  It fails to expose the larger ‘relational transformation’ dynamic wherein Jean Valjean was moving bread from regions of surplus to regions of deficiency, by giving the bread to a starving child.  The single perspectives of Western rational judgements, backed up by DNA tracing and super-scientific crime-scene-investigation (CSI) constrains itself to single perspectives and thus blinds itself to relational transformation, which requires the omni-perspectival view.

There is only a perspectival seeing, only a perspectival ‘knowing’; the more affects we are able to put into words about a thing, the more eyes, various eyes we are able to use for the same thing, the more complete will be our ‘concept’ of the thing, our ‘objectivity’.– Nietzsche

But in the WEST, the tool DOES run away with the workman, the human with the divine, and that is the PROMINENT feature THAT DISTINGUISHES THE CULTURES OF THE EAST FROM THE CULTURES OF THE WEST.

The language-based reduction of the ineffable Tao enables an effable reduction that opens the way to sharing a reduced but effable semblance; e.g. non-local resonance (wave-field dynamic) that manifests as ‘duning’ is ineffable in that it is inextricably included in the Tao (it is a nonlocal phenomenon).  Language can reduce it from a NONLOCAL to a LOCAL phenomenon; i.e. to a ‘dune’ which grammar can notionally re-animate in a local sense (‘the dune is growing larger and moving south).  Now we can get down to sharing understanding of ‘reality’ (or some crude reduction of it) by talking about local, explicit things-themselves and their explicit actions and developments via the ‘double error’ of language and grammar.  This will be an abstract constructed reality good enough for sharing some crude reduced sense of reality, but certainly not qualified as a substitute for the Tao.

The WESTERN culture craziness lies in SUBSTITUTING LANGUAGE BASED (DOUBLE ERROR) REDUCTION OF THE TAO FOR THE TAO, THE EFFABLE FOR THE INEFFABLE.  THE EAST USES THE REDUCTION MERELY FOR INFERENCE AND NOT AS A SUBSTITUTE REALITY; I.E. IN THE EAST, THE TAO REMAINS THE PRIMARY REALITY

We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are thus DEFINED BY OUR DENIAL of NONLOCALITY

The EXPLICIT and the IMPLICIT: vis a vis The WEST and the EAST

David Bohm’s exploration of the EXPLICATE ORDER vis a vis the IMPLICATE ORDER is not just an exploration of the ORDER OUT THERE IN THE WORLD, but it is at the same time and exploration of how we come to understand the world, and how language influences our understanding.

For example, in understanding reality as an all-including Wave-field as suggested by modern physics, and by the philosophical impression reality of Heraclitus, indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta, there is no “I” as a LOCAL thing-in-itself with its own powers of SOURCING actions and developments.  We are included relational forms in the NONLOCAL flow (the ineffable Wave-field aka the transforming relational continuum aka the Tao).  Schroedinger comments on how this understanding has remained largely in the EAST and has been ignored in the WEST.  My view is that this difference in understanding reality DEFINES WEST and EAST.  In Shroedinger’s words;

… In Christian terminology to say: ‘Hence I am God Almighty’ sounds both blasphemous and lunatic. But please disregard these connotations for the moment and consider whether the above inference is not the closest a biologist can get to proving God and immortality at one stroke.

In itself, the insight is not new. The earliest records to my knowledge date back some 2,500 years or more. From the early great Upanishads the recognition ATHMAN = BRAHMAN (the personal self equals the omnipresent, all-comprehending eternal self) was in Indian thought considered, far from being blasphemous, to represent the quintessence of deepest insight into the happenings of the world. The striving of all the scholars of Vedanta was, after having learnt to pronounce with their lips, really to assimilate in their minds this grandest of all thoughts.

 Again, the mystics of many centuries, independently, yet in perfect harmony with each other (somewhat like the particles in an ideal gas) have described, each of them, the unique experience of his or her life in terms that can be condensed in the phrase: DEUS FACTUS SUM (I have become God).

This ‘modern physics’ view, which coincides with the EASTERN view, is where we are ONE-WITH-EVERYTHING; i.e. wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE as in the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium which has been termed Quantum Logic.

This ‘quantum logic’ is not a logic that delivers understanding in terms of “things-and-their-dynamics’, but rather a logic that delivers understanding in terms of “dynamics and their things”.

Can we understand ourselves in this manner?  Can we understand our nation in this manner?  Can we understand our corporation in this manner?   Why NOT understand a sustaining matrix of relations as ‘coming first’ and thus as the PRIMARY essence of what we then apply the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR to, as in Nietzsche’s interpretation of reality?  We are NOT GOD; i.e. we are NOT the-LOCAL CREATIVE-SOURCE of our “own” actions and developments, we are relational INCLUSIONS in the transforming relational continuum.  We are ‘one-with-everything’ as implied by ‘mitakuye oyasin’.

To believe that we are LOCAL SOURCE of actions and developments is a CRAZY-MAKER.  It is the DOUBLE ERROR that Nietzsche points out.  Because we are included in the transforming relational continuum and are thus ‘one-with-everything’, who we are is relational and IMPLICIT as may be referred to implicitly; e.g. ‘Dances with Wolves’.   The process of EFFABLE-izg our INEFFABLE selves involves rendering ourselves, with language and grammar in LOCAL and EXPLICIT terms; e.g. ‘My name is John Dunbar; … my LOCAL coordinates are such-and-such, and my personal experiences and achievements are as follows’ (i.e. John hands out a copy of his PERSONAL biographical history of actions and developments).

This is the WESTERN CULTURE CRAZY-MAKING understanding that is in terms of a BIPOLAR splitting into TWO, whereby SELF-and-OTHER-are-TWO, and more generally, FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO.  The DOUBLE ERROR is where we use NAMING to impute LOCAL BEING and GRAMMAR to impute the power of LOCAL SOURCING of actions and developments to the NAMING-instantiated LOCAL BEING.

Compare this to the EASTERN CULTURE wherein ‘everything is related’ (mitakuye oyasin) such that SELF-and-OTHER-are-ONE, or more generally FIGURE-and-GROUND-are ONE.

This is the finding of modern physics as interpreted by Bohm and Schroedinger, and Schroedinger says the following in emphasizing that our practice of ‘splitting ourselves out’ of the transforming relational continuum is not a supportable understanding of reality;

“The world is given to me only once, not one existing and one perceived. Subject and object are only one. The barrier between them cannot be said to have broken down as a result of recent experience in the physical sciences, for this barrier does not exist.” – Erwin Schroedinger

So, we do not live in world of THINGS-and-THEIR DYNAMICS’, but in a world of DYNAMICS-and-their-THINGS.

We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS, in our linguistic articulations of reality like to keep things most simple (at the expense of that which is most true);

“As regards the academies, they are established in order to regulate the studies of the pupils and are concerned not to have the program of teaching change very often: in such places, because it is a question of the progress of the students, it frequently happens that the things which have to be chosen are not those which are most true but those which are most easy. And by that division in things which makes different people form different judgements, it so happens that certain people are in error contrary to their own opinion.” – Johannes Kepler, ‘Harmonies of the World’

The relational dynamics of relational forms (humans) that cultivate NATIONING are relations first and things second as in ‘dynamics and their things’, the ‘thing being the NATION’.

NOT “things-and-their-dynamics” BUT ‘dynamics and their things’.  The dynamics of the transforming relational continuum are the continuing source of self-organizing. NOTA BENE: “It is the DOUBLE ERROR of naming and grammar that lets us INVERT the natural IMPLICIT/NONLOCAL order of things and substitute EXPLICIT/LOCAL order which we SPECIFY (“explicitize”) by way of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING things-in-themselves conflated by animating them with GRAMMAR instantiated (notional) powers of SOURCING actions and developments.

The DOUBLE ERROR thus takes us from the INEFFABLE-and-IMPLICIT-because-NONLOCAL to the EFFABLE-and-EXPLICIT-because-LOCAL.

BUT SOMETHING IS GOING MISSING!

We can be EXPLICIT about growing our farm from 2 acres to 160 acres by ‘cultivating’ more land (removing trees and stumps and ploughing up the earth and killing ‘weeds’ but if we speak about this as GROWTH of cultivated land if it were something ‘real’, we are dropping out the conjugate LOSS OF WILDERNESS which brings forth the Goedel’s Theorem HOLE in logic wherein ‘all finite systems of logical propositions are innately incomplete’.

In this example, we can see that the proposition that we GREW the size of the cultivated area of land is incomplete in that, while true, it fails to capture the conjugate SHRINKAGE of Wilderness area.  Together, such GROWTH and SHRINKAGE can be captured by RELATION or IMPLICIT understanding in that what is going on is relational TRANSFORMATION.   Similarly, while it is true that Robin Hood stole grain from the granaries of the rich, and Jean Valjean stole bread from those with plenty, these are incomplete truths in that there is no mention of these actions in terms of relational balance wherein there is movement from regions of plenty to regions of deficiency.

Evidently, our EXPLICIT capture by way of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR is at the expense of the IMPLICIT relational balance-sustaining reality.

GROWTH and SHRINKAGE both imply LOCAL THING-IN-ITSELF-BEING that is experiencing GROWTH or SHRINKAGE; e.g. Cultivated land as distinguished from Wilderness land, the names we impose to distinguish between FIGURE-and-GROUND which we impute to be TWO, but which is in reality, FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE.  That is, the DOUBLE ERROR based distinguishing between Cultivated land and Wilderness land; i.e. the distinguishing based on NAMING and GRAMMAR where we can impute GROWTH to the cultivated land AS IF IT EXISTED IN ITS OWN INDEPENDENT RIGHT, implies a FLAT-SPACE reality because in a spherical space reality, it is an impossibility to be GROWING the cultivated land without the conjugate SHRINKING of the Wilderness land.

However, language and grammar DOES ALLOW US TO CONSTRUCT REPRESENTATION OF “REALITY” wherein we GROW the cultivated land without mention of SHRINKAGE of the Wilderness land, as if THE LAND that was being cultivated WAS A FLAT PLAIN OF INFINITE EXTENT.

The impression that we conjure up in our mind  is thus that GROWTH is something “real”, but this is a mistake, there is no such thing as GROWTH in a transforming relational continuum aka the Wave-field aka ‘the Tao’.

By the same token, there is no PERSONAL GROWTH in terms of our stacking up a long list of actions and achievements that we can ‘attribute to ourselves’ as is the WESTERN CRAZY-MAKING CULTURE.  Such ACHIEVEMENTS are the abstract concoctions of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR, they are not ‘real’, … but to believe they are real is what constitutes EGO and EGO inflation (if the ACHIEVEMENTS are popularly acclaimed as positive) and EGO deflation (if the ACHIEVEMENTS are popularly derided as negative).

THERE ARE NO ‘ACHIEVEMENTS’, … THE CONCEPT OF A PERSONALLY SOURCED ACHIEVEMENT IS ABSTRACTION DERIVING FROM THE DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR.  We are all included in a transforming relational continuum wherein ‘mitakuye oyasin’ is the operative reality (everything is related).  In this case, our natural ethic is the cultivating and sustaining of relational harmony.  When we are ‘driving in the freeway traffic of life’, we can put our movements in the service of cultivating and sustaining relational harmony in the continuing flow.  In this relational understanding of reality, there are no LOCAL INDEPENDENT BEINGS with notional POWERS OF SOUCING actions and developments, as are often imputed to exist in WESTERN CULTURE DOUBLE ERROR based belief systems; e.g;

1730 God created man a rational being, conferring on him the dignity of a person who can initiate and control his own actions. “God willed that man should be ‘left in the hand of his own counsel,’ so that he might of his own accord seek his Creator and freely attain his full and blessed perfection by cleaving to him.”26

Man is rational and therefore like God; he is created with free will and is master over his acts.

FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY

1731 Freedom is the power, rooted in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one’s own responsibility. By free will one shapes one’s own life. Human freedom is a force for growth and maturity in truth and goodness; it attains its perfection when directed toward God, our beatitude.

1732 As long as freedom has not bound itself definitively to its ultimate good which is God, there is the possibility of choosing between good and evil, and thus of growing in perfection or of failing and sinning. This freedom characterizes properly human acts. It is the basis of praise or blame, merit or reproach.

The world as an all-including transforming relational continuum is something very different from a world seen in the DOUBLE ERROR terms of NAMING and GRAMMAR as gives rise to an EXPLICIT, LOCAL SOURCING based reality.

This EXPLICIT reality is conceived of in the DOUBLE ERROR terms of independently existing things-in-themselves with ‘their own’ powers of SOURCING actions and developments.

This EXPLICITIZING secures the effable-izing of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL by substituting the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL, this reduction being achieved by the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR.  For example, instead of DUNING as a NONLOCAL resonance phenomenon, we reduce this to ‘the DUNE’ (by NAMING) and conflating and animating this NAMING with GRAMMAR, saying ‘The DUNE is growing higher and longer and is shifting towards the coast’.    Now we have left behind the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL reality of relational resonance (DUNING) wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE, … and have put ourselves, with the DOUBLE ERROR, into the new land wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO, and we can speak of the FIGURE (e.g. the DUNE) as if it had within it the POWER of SOURCING its own ACTIONS and DEVELOPMENTS.

As silly as it may sound when one stops to ponder it, we do give the DUNE, which we cannot even properly distinguish from the resonance phenomenon of DUNING, a life and sourcing power of its own, as if to understand its participation within the resonance (Wave-field) in terms of ITS OWN LOCAL GROWTH AND POWERS OF SOURCING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS.

What the DOUBLE ERROR can do to DUNING in the transforming relational continuum, it can equally do to HUMANING in the transforming relational continuum.

This abstract reduction is handy as a tool for COMMUNICATIONS, but watch out because we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are letting this ‘tool run away with the workman, the human with the divine’ – Emerson.

OUR WESTERN CULTURE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONING…

… has us elevate the DOUBLE ERROR (NAMING and GRAMMAR) based EFFABLE-because-LOCAL reality construction wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO as in the DUNES and DESERT example, into an unnatural precedence over the EASTERN and modern physics based INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL reality wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE as in the DUNING in the DESERTING resonance based understanding wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE, as generally IMPLIED by ‘mitakuye oyasin’ where all forms are relational forms within the transforming relational continuum (aka the Wave-field aka the Tao).

In other words, our WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT language architecture and usage (the DOUBLE ERROR structure) delivers abstract REALITY CONSTRUCTIONS in LOCAL and EXPLICIT and thus EFFABLE terms (e.g ‘the DUNE is growing higher and longer and is shifting across the ‘desert floor’).  Of course, this EFFABLE-ization comes by way of splitting FIGURE and GROUND into TWO (e.g. inhabitant and habitat as Two), so there is no more ‘transforming relational continuum’, which is meanwhile INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL.

This “EFFABLE-IZING TOOL” is a LOCALizing and EXPLICITizing reduction that we can serve up in terms of visual images, yet it ‘can’t go the distance’ in articulating the reality of our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum, an experience which is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT since ‘everything is in relational flux’ (Heraclitus).

While being able to share reduced representations of our ineffable experience in reductive abstractions based on the LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE, is extremely useful in that it enables language-based sharing of experience (albeit REDUCED representations thereof), to employ these reductions directly, as our ‘operative reality’, distinguishes us WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS from EASTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS , and modern physics supports the understanding of the EASTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS (indigenous aboriginal cultures, Taoism/Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta) in that LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE constructions of reality only qualify as ‘tools of inference’ to infer the transforming relational continuum (primary reality) that is NONLOCAL, IMPLICIT and INEFFABLE.

While the EAST and modern physics acknowledges the limitations of language-based representations based on the LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE, seeing them only as tools of inference; e.g;

6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.)

He must surmount these propositions; then he sees the world rightly.

7.0 Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.

The WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT employs the LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE propositions DIRECTLY as the OPERATIVE REALITY.

This is a CRAZY-MAKER.

Chances are, if you are a WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT in good standing, even though you understood how it is that our reality constructions based on the LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE are only good for use as Wittgenstein Ladders’ to BOOTSTRAP an intuitive leap to the NONLOCAL, IMPLICIT and INEFFABLE, you will forget about all this EASTERN and modern physics stuff, even if it ‘seemed to make sense’ and return to what everyone in doing in our WESTERN CULTURE, and using the LOCAL, EXPLICIT and EFFABLE as the OPERATIVE REALITY.

Of the logos, which is as I describe it, people always prove to be uncomprehending both before they have heard it and once they have heard it. For, although all things happen according to the logos, people are like those of no experience, even when they do experience such words and deeds as I explain when I distinguish each thing according to its phusis (nature / constitution) and declare how it is; but others are as ignorant of what they do when awake as they are forgetful of what they do when asleep.

Those who hear and do not understand are like the deaf. Of them the proverb says: “Present, they are absent.”

It is not exactly that people ‘do not understand’ that we live in a flow based reality that is NONLOCAL, IMPLICIT and INEFFABLE (since it is an all-including fluid continuum), it is that when we open our mouths to talk about it, we are wrong, but we continue to talk about it, as if with sufficient intelligent talk, we will finally capture the reality that is ‘encoded in the words’.  But there is no reality captured in the words, the reality lies beyond the words and the words are only good as a tool of inference.

For example, resonance is NONLOCAL but resonance-based forms are LOCAL; i.e. DUING is NONLOCAL but DUNES are LOCAL and what is LOCAL we can capture in the limited field of a LOCAL PICTURE.  A reduction of fluid relational reality to PICTURES such as DUNES dumbs down our understanding, reducing it from the NONLOCAL to the LOCAL;

 A picture held us captive. And we could not get outside it, for it lay in our language and language seemed to repeat it to us inexorably. –-Wittgenstein – Philosophical Investigations.

We trace over the outline of the DUNE and in our crow’s eye focus on the LOCAL DUNE form, we lose touch with the understanding of DUNING as a resonance phenomenon (Wave-field) in which we and everything are included.  Moreover, it is far simpler to discuss that which is deemed LOCAL than to try to capture in words and language such relational phenomena as resonance;

People who maintain that DUNING is a NONLOCAL resonance phenomenon but who, for convenience, reduce their language-based conceptualizing to terms of LOCAL DUNES with GRAMMAR-given POWERS OF LOCALLY SOURCING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS “are in error contrary to their own opinion”.

In the transforming relational continuum, there is no such thing as LOCAL SOURCING, there is only relational resonance wherein there is an ‘orchestrating’ of emergent developments;

“Bees cull their several sweets from this flower and that blossom, here and there where they find them, but themselves afterward make the honey, which is all and purely their own, and no more thyme and marjoram: so the several fragments he borrows from others, he will transform and shuffle together to compile a work that shall be absolutely his own; that is to say, his judgment: his instruction, labor and study, tend to nothing else but to form that. The transforming relational continuum emerges from the connective confluence of relational influences.   It is only the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR that invents the NAME “BEE” and then enlists GRAMMAR to impute to the NAMING-instantiated thing-in-itself (in this case, BEE), the power of SOURCING actions and developments.  In modern physics, the “Surprise version of the game of Twenty Questions” can describe a web of resonantly related activities that is NONLOCAL and  which APPEARS in the form of a ‘BEE’.  Which is MORE REAL?  the web of resonantly related activities that find a BEE at the centre of, or the BEE as a LOCAL thing-in-itself with ‘its own powers of SOURCING actions and developments’?

NOTA BENE: It is the BEE’s interactions with other bees in their crowding together as they build storage cells that induces the near-perfect HEXAGONAL geometry of the cell.  Not only is this hexagonal design a mathematical optimum with respect to the use of space, it reduces material requirements by half (shared cell walls).

In other words, there appears to be ambiguity as to the degree to which the cell form is inside-outwardly sourced or outside-inwardly sourced. This is the same type of geometrical ambiguity that splits WESTERN CULTURE ADHEREINTS into EITHER ‘conservative’ (inside-outward asserting) OR ‘liberal’ (outside-inward inducing) as in; conservative: — ‘One bad apple sources rotting of the whole barrel’, and ; ‘liberal’ ‘It takes a whole community to raise a child’.

This psychological splitting (bipolar disorder) is built into WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENCY and arises from first assuming FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO as in the EITHER/OR logic of the EXCLUDED medium.  The psychological splitting (bipolar disorder) never develops in modern physics ‘quantum logic’; i.e. in the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE (SUBJECT and OBJECT are only ONE, as proposed by Schroedinger).

BIPOLAR DISORDER as manifests in WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS’ split into conservative and liberal political factions comes bundled in with the EITHER/OR logic of the EXCLUDED medium where FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-TWO and never develops where the operative logic is the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium where FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE.

In the example of DUNING as a resonance (Wave-field) phenomenon, the reduction to “the DUNE” and the embellishment of GRAMMAR to impute growing and shifting to the DUNE is the DOUBLE ERROR based means of rendering the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, … EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT.

The same understanding can be applied to the BEE-ING when this ‘insecting’ is first seen as a resonance (Wave-field) phenomenon in keeping with the FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE understanding, and likewise for the HUMAN-ing, as suggested by Zen scholar Alan Watts.

On the one hand, in order to render the INEFFABLE-because NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT TRANSFORMATION … EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT ACTIONS and DEVELOPMENTS, .. we must employ reductions to the latter.  The EAST splits from the WEST on THIS BASIS: While THE EAST employs the EXPLICIT only as a tool of INFERENCE to stimulate an INTUITIVE leap to the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, … the WEST employs the EXPLICIT as the OPERATIVE REALITY.

This exploration of The EXPLICIT and the IMPLICIT, while it has followed the direction of Bohm, has at the same time integrated the DOUBLE ERROR context of Nietzsche, which further addresses (in complementary fashion) the influence of language and grammar in the conceptualizing of reality.

Psychological implications are brought in, but not in the same sense as Nietzsche brought them in with his DOUBLE ERROR inference which exposes how NAMING and GRAMMAR introjects the abstract concept of LOCAL SOURCING, thereby covering over and HIDING (from our intellectual understanding) the NONLOCALITY inherent in physical reality.

The documentary “Infinite Potential” stops short of addressing the language and grammar-based influences that protected the indigenous aboriginal cultures of North America as well as the EASTERN Taoist/Buddhist and Advaita Vedanta cultures, from the ‘dumbing down’ of WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENT thinking/understanding of cosmic reality.

WESTERN CULTURE TRUST IN VISUAL PICTURES IS SCREWING UP OUR CONCEIVING OF REALITY

Just because we have pictures of Jean Valjean and Robin Robin … IN THE ACT… of stealing bread and grain (as they were caught up in the natural process of movement from regions of excess to regions of deficiency) … DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT “MAKES SENSE” (in any natural way) to put together a NAMING and GRAMMAR based (DOUBLE ERROR based) construction of ‘reality’.

THINK OF WHAT WE ARE DOING WHEN WE BUILD A CONCEPTUALIZATION OF REALITY THAT IS LOCALLY SOURCED!  This amounts to a DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE of this LOCAL JUMPSTART pseudo-reality, … from the TRANSFORMING RELATIONAL CONTINUUM.

In other words, to construct a conceptualization of ‘reality’ that is LOCAL and based on LOCAL SOURCING of actions and development, is, as Nietzsche points out, a DOUBLE ERROR.  The first ERROR is NAMING that imputes LOCAL thing-in-itself existence, and the second error of GRAMMAR conflates the first by imputing to the first, the notional power of SOURCING actions and developments.

What this achieves is to ‘break into’ the ‘Tao’ aka the ‘Wave-field’ and establish a notional LOCAL SOURCING AGENCY.  WHY? … Because the reason why ‘the Tao that can be told is not the true Tao’ is because the Tao is THE WHOLE BALL OF WAX; …it is the transforming relational continuum, the Wave-field, the Logos of Heraclitus, and it is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL, … so why not do a job on it to eke out a LOCAL foothold that will permit “EFFABLE ARTICULATION” of (a reductive representational tool that will at least INFER the ineffable Tao)?

One reason to at least be careful is this reduction tool may ‘run away with the workman’, meaning that after we apply the DOUBE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR to ourselves, which has us portraying ourselves as LOCAL SOURCES OF ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS, … this being purely an expedient for coming up with a reduced-but-effable rendering on the ineffable, wherein we are included in the ongoing transforming relational continuum, as with a ‘boil’ in a fluid flow, wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE (as in the BOTH/AND logic of the INCLUDED medium of modern physics logic).

Let’s face it, ‘this reduction-to-local-being-with-sourcing-power TOOL having run away with the workman’ is the DEFINING FORMULA OF WESTERN CULTURE social dynamics.  It allows us, rhetorically, to break into the Tao-continuum and INVERT the natural order, … just for the purpose of rendering EFFABLE-because-LOCAL the INEFFABLE-because NONLOCAL.  By this DOUBLE ERROR treatment, we, ourselves, come to lose our understanding of ourselves as, for example, ‘Dances with Wolves’ (a relational swirling inclusion in the all-including flow [Wave-field, Tao]), in stead of “John Dunbar” the NAMING which goes with GRAMMAR to deliver the CARTOON-like representation wherein the JOHN DUNBAR is a LOCAL SOURCE of actions and developments.

If the social collective actually starts using this DOUBLE ERROR reduction as the ‘operative reality’, rather than simply as a tool of INFERENCE of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL, as has happened in WESTERN CULTURE, there is going to be rampant DELUSION.

There is really only one main point here, but with many different ramifications, and that is that, while the real world of our experience is inclusion in the transforming relational continuum, which is INEFFABLE (it is the Tao that cannot be told), the utility of being able to have some method of SHARING EXPERIENCES, is of immense value, allowing us to benefit from the experiential findings of our relational fellows and to avoid the pitfalls our brothers and sisters have stumbled into (mitakuye oyasin).

Having a means of intellectual sharing is of such tremendous value that the fact that what language allows us to share can only be a reduced representation of reality, nevertheless delivers a utility that makes up for our having to reduce our INEFFABLE experience to come up with something EFFABLE.   As Wittgenstein observes, once we get the gist of it through sharing of a reduced conceptualization conveyed by language, we can let that intellectual reduction guide and shape our ongoing sensory experience, and hopefully, whereupon our sensory experience can rediscover our FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE reality-dynamic (i.e. our SUBJECT-and-OBJECT- as-ONE “intuitive” perceiving mode).

PICTURES serve as a means of CRUDELY reducing the transforming relational continuum, reducing the NONLOCAL to the pseudo-LOCAL.  This is where we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS behave like the drunk who loses his watch on a dark section of the road but searches for it under the streetlight because ‘the search conditions are better there’.

NAMING and GRAMMAR designed to stimulate mental pictures of LOCAL things-in-themselves, with notional (GRAMMAR-given) powers of SOURCING actions and developments allows us to CRUDELY reconstruct and effable-ize a PIECE of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL transforming relational continuum.  Thus the unbounded relational transformation that manifests as resonance-based transformation; aka DUNING, which is inherently NONLOCAL (the entire sun and stars dynamic would have to be understood to understand “DUNING”, … is something we RE-PRESENT in reduced-to-LOCAL terms; i.e. ‘the DUNE’ by way of the DOUBLE ERROR (Nietzsche).  Thanks to the DOUBLE ERROR we can use our intellect to BREAK IN to the transforming relational continuum and COOK UP some LOCALLY SOURCING action and development.  This is what it takes to render EFFABLE-because-LOCAL the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL.

“Our judgement has us conclude that every change must have an author”;–but this conclusion is already mythology: it separates that which effects from the effecting. If I say “lightning flashes,” I have posited the flash once as an activity and a second time as a subject, and thus added to the event a being that is not one with the event but is rather fixed, “is” and does not “become.”–To regard an event as an “effecting,” and this as being, that is the double error, or interpretation, of which we are guilty.” – Nietzsche, ‘Will to Power’, 531

This LOCALIZING of the NONLOCAL is not just a neat little tool to us WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS because we SECURE it within LANGUAGE, with EGO, as is further described by Nietzsche;

“In its origin language belongs in the age of the most rudimentary form of psychology. We enter a realm of crude fetishism when we summon before consciousness the basic presuppositions of the metaphysics of language, in plain talk, the presuppositions of reason. Everywhere it sees a doer and doing; it believes in will as the cause; it believes in the ego, in the ego as being, in the ego as substance, and it projects this faith in the ego-substance upon all things–only thereby does it first create the concept of “thing.” Everywhere “being” is projected by thought, pushed underneath, as the cause; the concept of being follows, and is a derivative of, the concept of ego. In the beginning there is that great calamity of an error that the will is something which is effective, that will is a capacity. Today we know that it is only a word.” – Nietzsche, Chapter 5 (Reason in Philosophy) of Twilight of the Idols.

Of course, this DOUBLE ERROR makes us out to be GOD, which is basically what the EGO is; i.e. we see ourselves as the LOCAL SOURCE of actions and developments, and no longer embrace our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum.  In this one fell swoop, FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-ONE are split asunder and we have FIGURE-and-GROUND-as-TWO with the popular version being that the SOURCING POWER derives from the FIGURE so that the FIGURE transforms the GROUND (humans ‘make the desert bloom’) leaving behind the understanding that humans are relational forms included in the ‘ground’ wherein FIGURE-and-GROUND-are-ONE, as in modern physics and as in the understanding of indigenous aboriginals, Taoist/Buddhist and Advaita Vedanta adherents.

Language and Grammar thus present to us in our intellectualizing minds, visions of LOCAL THINGS with “their own” (i.e. GRAMMAR-GIVEN) powers of sourcing actions and developments.

These mental CARTOONS open the way to EFFABLE SHARING of a reduced conceptualization of reality wherein SUBJECT and OBJECT (which are ONE in our sensory experience of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum) are SPLIT into TWO so that the OBJECT as viewable by the SUBJECT becomes EFFABLE.  That is, my sensory experience is of inclusion in the transforming relational continuum but that is an INEFFABLE experience wherein I  am ONE-WITH-EVERYTHING, so as Wittgenstein observes in his final proposition in Tractatus;

“7. Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.” (“Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen”), — Wittgenstein

While we can’t directly articulate the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL, we can ‘make inferences’ that IMPLY phenomena that is INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL

For example, there is no end to the sourcing that manifests as the NONLOCAL resonance phenomenon of DUNING which is an aspect of the transforming relational continuum, but I could use the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR to invent DUNE (signifying an abstract LOCAL thing-in-itself) and use GRAMMAR to animate it in our speech-stimulated intellectualizing mind.  “Look, that DUNE over there is growing higher and longer and shifting towards the coast”.

So, such language can stimulate an impression of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL transforming relational continuum, BUT WE MUST NOT FORGET THAT SUCH CONSTRUCTIONS ARE MERELY EFFABLE MENTAL IMPRESSIONS USEFUL FOR INFERENCE AND “ARE NOT REAL”.  That is, there is no LOCAL thing-in-itself “DUNE” with its own powers of growing higher and longer and shifting towards the coast, … that is just intellectual abstraction based contrivance to STIMULATE an INTUITION of our sensory experience of inclusion in the RESONANCE (the Wave-field aka the Tao aka the transforming relational continuum).

After we use such language and grammar EFFABLE TRICKERY to IMPLY the INEFFABLE, it is not going to be helpful if we BALK on receiving the EFFABLE and fail to make the leap to the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL (resonance world aka Wave-field aka Tao) that lies innately beyond the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL.  As Wittgensein reminds us DON’T FORGET TO MAKE THE INTUITIVE LEAP to the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT that the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL and EXPLICIT propositions can only IMPLY; i.e. as Wittgenstein coaches;

6.54 My propositions are elucidatory in this way: he who understands me finally recognizes them as senseless, when he has climbed out through them, on them, over them. (He must so to speak throw away the ladder, after he has climbed up on it.

He must surmount these propositions; then he sees the world rightly.

There is a danger in constructing these reductions in language and grammar, that there may be people who INTERPRET THEM LITERALLY.  In fact, there is a whole culture that has formed around this EXPLICITISM or ‘read-my-lips’ LITERALISM and it is OUR WESTERN CULTURE.

We WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are those who never got the ‘throw away the ladder’ lesson.

In our case, we got kind of ‘mesmerized’ by the language-cultivated LOCAL PICTURES; e.g. of Robin Hood stealing the King’s granary, as captured in the King’s CCTV warehouse cameras.  WESTERN Crime Scene Investigation will focus on establishing the truth (the whole truth and nothing but the truth) …which is a crock, of course, … of that LOCAL PICTURABLE EVENT of Robin Hood’s unauthorized entry into the King’s granary and his unauthorized removal and redistribution of significant volumes of grain.

The Tabloids may give Front Page coverage to a CCTV picture of Robin Hood loading up in the King’s Granary, making this even the ‘talk of the town’.  Pass it on; this picture of Robin Hood stealing the King’s grain.

A picture held us captive. And we could not get outside it, for it lay in our language and language seemed to repeat it to us inexorably. –-Wittgenstein – Philosophical Investigations.

Of course, that’s not the ‘full story’ and that’s the problem because the story is never ‘full and complete’, since our real life sensory experience is of inclusion in a transforming relational continuum.

What such pictures impress upon us, supported by the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR, is the impression of LOCAL SOURCING of actions and developments as a kind of stand-alone package. That stand-alone packaging is what renders the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT.

Grammar us such LOCAL self-standing (i.e. EXPLICIT) picturable propositions such as ‘Robin Hood stole from the King’s granary.  If you think about it, this imputing of a NAMING-instantiated LOCAL BEING with powers of LOCALLY SOURCING ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS, while it renders EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT, … gives the NAMED ENTITY GOD-LIKE POWERS OF CREATION aka jumpstart (out-of-the-blue) SOURCING.

As we know, the reduction of the INEFFABLE-because-NONLOCAL-and-IMPLICIT to the EFFABLE-because-LOCAL-and-EXPLICIT which shifts from IMPLICIT forms in the flow to EXPLICIT (stand-on-their-own) FORMS, which now require a separate CONTAINER happened as a culture-shift described by Heraclitus

“In the writing of Heraclitus, to a larger degree than ever before, the images do not impose their burden of concreteness but are entirely subservient to the achievement of clarity and precision

“Heraclitus had declared ‘being’ a perpetual ‘becoming’ and had correlated the two concepts with his ‘hidden attunement.’ Now Parmenides declared the two to be mutually exclusive, and only ‘being’ to be real.” — ‘The Intellectual Adventure of Ancient Man’, — ‘Henri Frankfort, H. A. Frankfort, John A. Wilson, Thorkild Jacobsen, and William A. Irwin.

HOW WOULD ONE SUMMARIZE THIS?

My thought on this is that ‘PICTURES’ are a basic problem because they are snapshots for forms in the flow-continuum that we EXPLCITIZE by NAMING and animate with GRAMMAR.  REALITY is TRANSFORMATION and while our senses support our relational inclusion in the GREAT HARMONY (aka the Tao), TRANSFORMATION is not VOYEUR – VISIBLE since can’t get outside of it since we are it; i.e.

“The world is given to me only once, not one existing and one perceived. Subject and object are only one. The barrier between them cannot be said to have broken down as a result of recent experience in the physical sciences, for this barrier does not exist.” – Erwin Schroedinger

Of course, there is nothing more ‘God’s-eye view-like’ than the scientist’s looking through the barrel of a microscope or telescope at the world; i.e. it is almost certain to psychologically split the observer out of the relational spatial plenum he is included in.  This is the formula for creating ‘knowledge’ based on ‘scientific observations’, the sort of knowledge, as Heraclitus says; “that does not teach understanding”.
