AUTHOR’S PREFACE:  If you read and understand this AUTHOR’S PREFACE, you will understand where Rudyard Kipling’s poem EAST IS EAST and WEST is WEST and NEVER the TWAIN shall MEET, is coming from; i.e. from the EAST’S common use of less simple NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC of the INCLUDING MEDIUM (where one says things like “THERE IS TOWNING in the TRANSFORMING LANDSCAPE” wherein REALITY is grounded in FLOW).  In this reality which contrasts with the WEST’S common use of simple BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM (where one says things like “THE TOWN IS GROWING, DEVELOPING and PRODUCING goods”,  wherein REALITY is grounded in BEING).  The WESTERN CULTURE “MISTAKE” of giving THE FOUNDATIONAL ROLE in LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZATION to “BEING” HAS BEEN and PERSISTS IN BEING THE SOURCE OF FRAGMENTATION and OBSCURANTISM in WESTERN CULTURE COMPREHENSION AND SOCIAL DYNAMICS.  SUCH DYSFUNCTION does NOT DEVELOP within CULTURES whose LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING IS “FLOW” rather than “BEING” based.

The common DISTINGUISHING of “EAST” and “WEST” (and never the TWAIN shall MEET) is tied to these TWO VERY DIFFERENT EAST and WEST approaches to LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING, the former which is FLOW-BASED and the latter which is BEING-BASED, which is why “NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET”.  As we know, the EAST’S indigenous aboriginal, Taoist/Buddhist and Advaita Vedanta linguistic conceptualizing approaches (and also the Modern physics linguistic conceptualizing approach) lead to RESTORATIVE JUSTICE which is in marked contrast to the WEST’S Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christiantity and Islam which employ linguistic conceptualizing approaches that lead to PURIFICATIONIST JUSTICE.

 

This DIVISION into TWO VERY DIFFERENT JUSTICE SYSTEMS is because, in the EASTERN FLOW-BASED scheme of things (as also in MODERN PHYSICS), THE ORIGIN OF EVENTS is understood to be NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT as with STRANDS IN A WEB, and as with CONDENSATIONS in the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM.  BECAUSE of the PRESUMED INTERCONNECTION AND INTERDEPENDENCE of dynamics in the case of STRANDS IN A WEB and CONDENSATIONS in the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM which is assumed, IN THE EAST, to COMMUNITIES OF PEOPLE, … the FULL COMMUNITY assumes responsibility for LOCALLY EMERGENT VIOLENCE (relational dissonance that, while NONLOCAL in origin, manifests in LOCAL, VIOLENT ERUPTIONS).  In this case, where the ‘unrest’ is understood as coming from NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (relational) TENSIONS in the inerconnected, interdependent SOCIAL MATRIX, the “HEALING CIRCLE” is used to resolve relational tensions that are manifesting in social dissonance so as to restore relational balance and harmony and thus SUBSUME the VIOLENT VENTING of tensional STRESS that is NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT.  CONTRASTINGLY, in the WESTERN BEING-BASED scheme of things, the understaning is that VIOLENT OUTBURSTS derive from LOCAL and EXPLICIT ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS AUTHORED by MATERIAL BEINGS ACTING and INTERACTING in EMPTY SPACE, in which case the remedy for emergent VIOLENCE is to IDENTIFY and ELIMINATE or INCARCERATE the LOCAL, EXPLICIT AUTHORS of VIOLENCE. 

WHICH IS IT?  THE EAST’S UNDERSTANDING OF VIOLENCE IS THAT OF CROWD (WEB) VIOLENCE THAT VENTS FROM STRANDS IN A WEB WHERE THE VIOLENT “VENTING” , WHILE “LOCAL AND EXPLICIT”, STEMS FROM TENSIONS THAT ARE OF A NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (RELATIONAL ORIGIN) that BUILD WITHIN THE WEB.  MEANWHILE, THE WEST’S UNDERSTANDING IS THAT, .. VIOLENCE IS THE EXPLOSIVE ENERGY THAT VENTS FROM INDEPENDENT BEINGS WHO ARE (THOUGHT TO BE) THE FULL AND SOLE AUTHORS OF THEIR OWN ACTIONS?  (Let’s not forget Goedel’s Theorem of INCOMPLETENESS of all finite logical propositions, which means that, as Bohm points out, we can establish that John Wilkes Booth pulled the trigger that launched the bullet that killed Abraham Lincoln, the AUTHORING SOURCE in the relational understanding includes the influence coming from the invention of gunpowder and much more.  What emerges as REALITY involves a matrix of many relationally interdependent contributing influences, particularly when we accept that HUMANS are NOT REALLY “INDEPENDENT BEINGS” but are more like STRANDS in a WEB  or CONDENSATIONS in the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM where all things are INTERCONNECTED and INDEPENDENT.

So our UNDERSTANDING OF EVENTS is in general COMPLICATED by differences in opinion as to whether people are INTERCONNECTED and INTERDEPENDENT as is the case with STRANDS IN A WEB) and/or CONDENSATIONS in a PLENUM in which case we are confronted with something akin to; …  “the impossibility of calculating the individual movements of three or more bodies [strands] moving under one-another’s simultaneous mutual influence” (As Isaac Newton put it; An exact solution for three bodies, exceeds, if I am not mistaken, the force of any human mind”).  IT SHOULD BE NO SURPRISE, THEN, THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE EAST, INCLUDING INDIGENOUS ABORIGINALS, HAVE OPTED FOR “RESTORATIVE JUSTICE” rather than WESTERN CULTURE STYLE “PURIFICATIONIST JUSTICE” SINCE IN THE STRANDS IN THE WEB UNDERSTANDING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ESTABLISH “AUTHORSHIP” OF AN ACTION IN LOCAL, EXPLICIT TERMS, which is Bohm’s point in using the example of Booth’s shooting of Lincoln, wherein the invention of gunpowder was an important contributor.

In fact, People ‘from the EAST’ tend to understand REALITY in terms of their being included in something GREATER THAN THEMSELVES so what they do and how they develop, they see as being inductively shaped by how the world opens up opportunities (or exposure to hardships) for them, in combination with how adept they are in meeting the emergent challenges or opportunities; e.g. In two weeks time there will be a low tide that will facilitate the collecting of oysters from Nanoose Bay.  The REALITY that NATURE is the orchestrator of our DANCING FOR OUR SUPPER is NOT SUPERSEDED by our ability to formulate BEING based linguistic conceptualizations where PORTRAY ourselves as being the full and sole AUTHORS OF OUR OWN ACTIONS AND DEVELOPMENT. While it is TRUE that it was from our own volition that we collective oysters from Nanoose Bay, TRUTH is a SIMPLE LOGICAL STRUCTURE that, as in this example and as in general FAILS TO CAPTURE THE UNFOLDING REALITY wherein we waited two weeks for a LOW TIDE that was the FEMALE ACCOMMODATING/ENABLING that made facilitated my MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING ‘fetching of oysters’ and, in fact, orchestrated my movements as with a PUPPET ON A STRING which is a crude way of acknowledging that WE ARE INCLUDED IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN OURSELVES that we don’t bother to mention in our WESTERN CULTURE LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING SCHEME which is thererore haunted by the DEA ABSCONDITA (Goddess in hiding).  As Chief Seattle reminds us;  Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.  Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.

People ‘from the WEST’ tend to put more emphasis on their (our) own personal actions and developments as supported by WESTERN CULTURE tendency to use one-sided male asserting/actualizing language where one says “We gathered oysters from Nanoose Bay”.  This makes use of Goedel’s theorem of the incompleteness of all finite logical propositions, opening the door to this type of one-sided male-asserting/actualizing proposition which DROPS OUT ALL MENTION OF THE FEMALE ACCOMMODATING/ENABLING conjugate (i.e. we could acknowledge that we are included in a dynamic world that is GREATER THAN US and that ‘there are tides in the affairs of men’ and if we wait for the low tide that will come in two weeks time, we will have easy access to the OYSTER BEDS’.  If TRUTH be known, we are CONDENSATIONS that share inclusion in the all-including ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM.

 

NOTA BENE”   BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC OF THE EXCLUDED MEDIUM IS TOO SIMPLE A LOGIC TO SUPPORT THE UNDERSTANDINGS THAT COMES WITH THE LESS SIMPLE NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC OF THE INCLUDING MEDIUM: as is required for conceptualizing CONDENSATIONS in the energy-charged PLENUM and/or STRANDS in the WEB (wherein the NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT AMBIENT INFLUENCES predominate over the LOCAL and EXPLICIT ACTUALIZING AGENTS).  BEWARE ARGUMENTS wherein PARTICIPANTS are mixing and matching SIMPLE BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM with LESS SIMPLE NONBINARY BOTH/AND LOGIC OF THE EXCLUDED MEDIUM.  As Bohm points out, the shooting of Abraham Lincoln could be blamed on the inventor of gunpowder and other developments within the unfolding continuum and not simply on James Wilkes Booth and his pistol in which case EASTERN CULTURE RESTORATIVE JUSTICE can be seen as more appropriate than WESTERN CULTURE PURIFICATIONIST JUSTICE (since there is no LOCAL, EXPLICIT IDENTIFIABLE AUTHOR (to PRAISE or BLAME) and the origins of BOTH VIOLENT/DISPERSIVE and AMIABLE/UNIFYING developments are NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT [relational]). 

The thing to keep in mind is that WESTERN CULTURE IS MISTAKEN, as Nietzsche has pointed out, in its EITHER/OR LOGIC of the EXCLUDED MEDIUM  (EMPTY SPACE BASED) BELIEF IN PERSISTING BEING which puts one at odds with UNDERSTANDING based on the BOTH/AND LOGIC of the INCLUDING MEDIUM where the MATERIAL FORM (CONDENSATION) and the CONTAINING MEDIUM (ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM) ARE ONE COMPLEX (ANDROGENOUS) NONDUALITY.   WESTERN CULTURE HAS BEEN MAKING A DOUBLE ERROR IN ITS LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING OF THIS ANDROGYNOUS REALITY; THE FIRST ERROR IS THE NOTIONAL SPLITTING INTO TWO SEPARATE PIECES OF THE ANDROGYNOUS NONDUALITY, as in PIAGET’S method of TEACHING which pervades WESTERN CULTURE.  PIAGET SPLITS APART INTO TWO SEPARATE PIECES THE ANDROGYNOUS WAVE-FIELD, RETAINING AND USING THE MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING CONJUGATE AS IF IT EXISTED IN ITS OWN RIGHT, and DISCARDING THE FEMALE ACCOMMODATING/ENABLING CONJUGATE AS IF IT EXISTED IN ITS OWN RIGHT, leaving us WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS with a NOTIONAL STAND-ALONE MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING AGENT THAT PURPORTEDLY EXISTS OUT OF THE CONTEXT OF ITS INNATE ANDROGYNOUS NATURE, … A MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING AGENT THAT WESTERN CULTURE PROMOTES WITHIN ITS LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING SCHEME AS IF IT WERE SOMETHING “REAL” THAT IS PURPORTED TO BE “OPERATIVE” WITHIN A NOTIONAL ABSOLUTE EMPTY AND INFINITE SPACE.  The ABSTRACT (UNREAL) BINARY EITHER/OR LOGIC OF THE EXCLUDED MEDIUM) COMBINATION of MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING AGENT AS IF WITHIN AN ABSOLUTE EMPTY AND INFINITE SPACE EXEMPLIFIES what has been termed THE DEA ABSCONDITA (GODDESS IN HIDING) since by infusing EMPTY SPACE in place of the FEMALE ACCOMMODATING ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM, we ARTIFICIALLY PROMOTE the CONDENSATIONS which are in our SENSE-EXPERIENCE REALITY SECONDARY to the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM, into PRIMARY AUTHORING AGENT STATUS.

This PROMOTING of the SECONDARY CONDENSATIONS of the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM to PRIMARY AUTHORING AGENTS, which comes about by SUBSTITUTING EMPTY SPACE for the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM, creates CONFUSION because while the REAL AUTHORING SOURCE IS A NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (RELATIONAL) AUTHORING SOURCE (i.e. the ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM), WESTERN CULTURE is SUBSTITUTING NOTIONAL LOCAL and EXPLICIT AUTHORING SOURCES for the purely APPEARANCE based CONDENSATIONS aka Schaumkommen

 

As Bohm makes clear; Space is not empty.  It is full, a plenum as opposed to a vacuum, and is the ground for the existence of everything, including ourselves.”

 

WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS have MISTAKENLY DEVELOPED A LINGUISTIC CONCEPTUALIZING APPROACH THAT IS TURNING REALITY INSIDE-OUT, REDUCING THE NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT PLENUM WHICH IS THE “GROUND FOR THE EXISTENCE OF EVERYTHING, INCLUDING OURSELVES, to A POWERLESS EMPTINESS OF INFINITE EXTENT WHILE PROMOTING CONDENSATIONS, which are merely APPEARANCES in the same sense as WHORLINGS IN FLOWING which have NO LOCAL AUTHORING POWERS WHATSOEVER, TO PURPORTED LOCAL, EXPLICIT AUTHORING AGENTS. 

The NOTIONAL TRANSFERRING OF AUTHORING AGENCY FROM THE NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (THE FEMALE ACCOMMODATING/ENABLING FLOWING) TO the LOCAL and EXPLICIT WHORLINGS IN THE FLOWING (WHICH APPEAR TO BE MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING WHORLINGS) is a MISTAKEN INTERPRETATION that is elsewhere identified by Nietzsche as “THE DOUBLE ERROR OF NAMING AND GRAMMAR” which explains how we WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS are using a linguistic conceptualizing scheme that INVERTS the NATURAL ORDER of THINGS by impliying that WHORLINGS (which are LOCAL and EXPLICIT) are the AUTHORING SOURCE OF FLOWING (which is NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT [relational]).  The REALITY is just the OPPOSITE; i.e. the NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT (FLOW) is the source of the LOCAL and EXPLICIT (WHORLING).

 

Thus, WESTERN CULTURE linguistic conceptualizing, is in effect REMOVING ALL MENTION OF THE ENERGY-CHARGED PLENUM which is the NONLOCAL and IMPLICIT “GROUND FOR THE EXISTENCE OF EVERYTHING” … and SUBSTITUTING ABSOLUTE EMPTY AND INFINITE SPACE, leaving us with the FALSE IMPRESSION that the CONDENSATIONS of the PLENUM, which are only APPEARANCES (Schaumkommen) ARE INSTEAD, LOCAL EXPLICIT MATERIAL BEING based ENTITIES moving about and interacting in an ABSOLUTE EMPTY AND INFINITE SPACE.

 

WE WESTERN CULTURE ADHERENTS ARE SHUTTING OUT THE FEMALE CONJUGATE!  HERE’S HOW THAT IS HAPPENING.

Consider these lines from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar;

 

“There is a tide in the affairs of men Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat; And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures.”.  

 

Or, this line from the Bible;

 

“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpoose”To everything there is a season and at time to every purpose”

 

In both cases, there is an acknowledgement that WE ARE INCLUDED IN SOMETHING GREATER THAN OURSELVES in which case our common use of the DOUBLE ERROR of NAMING and GRAMMAR where we speak in terms of THINGS having POWERS of LOCAL AUTHORING of ACTIONS and DEVELOPMENTS is MISLEADING.   For example, I may say “I gathered oysters from Nanoose Bay” which, while TRUE, is subject to Goedel’s Theorem of the INCOMPLETENESS OF ALL FINITE LOGICAL PROPOSITIONS.  In this example, it may be that I had to wait two weeks for a low tide (female accommodating/enabling) to facility my (male asserting/actualizing) move, in which case it would be TRUE but INCOMPLETE for me to simply say “I gathered oysters from Nanoose Bay”.  But when I simply state that “I did this or that”, it seems to imply “WITHIN AN ABSOLUTE EMPTY AND INFINITE SPACE” because I make NO MENTION of having to contend with a complex FEMALE ACCOMMODATING/ENABLING SITUATION where I have to JUMP THROUGH HOOPS to carry out my MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING dynamic.

 

So, the lines in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar make sense because emergent situations are constantly inducing changes in our asserting actions.  As David Whyte says, “Ten years ago, I turned my face for a moment, and it became my life.”  … from ‘the Heart Aroused’ by David Whyte.  While we can keep a diary and document our actions, an account of WHAT WE HAVE DONE fails to capture the plethora of PATHS NOT TAKEN that would have been LIFE-CHANGING. The girl that winks at the boy may only wink once to see if there is fire in the connection as in “I turned my glance and it became my life”. THIS IS TELLING US THAT OUR LIVING EXPERIENCE, which is a continuing sequence of ENCOUNTERS, HAS AN ANDROGYNOUS (WAVE-LIKE) STRUCTURE WHEREIN FEMALE ACCCOMMODATING/ENABLING IS ON THE HUNT FOR A MATCH-UP WITH MALE ASSERTING/ACTUALIZING, NOT SIMPLY ON A RANDOM BASIS BUT IN PURSUIT OF RESONANT CONNECTION

 

RESONANT CONNECTION is COMPLEX to the point of MYSTERIOUS and lies beyond the reach of Artificial Intelligence, yet it is FOUNDATIONAL to our LIFE EXPERIENCE.
